Alasdair Roberts
The Fiery Margin

The Fiery Margin is the 13th solo album by Scottish folkie, Alasdair Roberts. Roberts has been known to mix traditional songs with originals. Here, on this collection of original material, he takes his inspiration from songs, performance and thoughts from the last 2000 years or so. It’s fair to say it’s a well researched record.

Au Cube

This is a lovely recording of three fellas, Alasdair Roberts, Neil McDermot & Tartine de Clous singing traditional French folk harmonies, accompanied by violin (and there's a great video of the live performance on Youtube in which they wear a rollneck, Breton shirt and a scarf - I kid you not!). The recording was made at a performance Au Cube in Bristol. It's a lovely display of traditional music.

What News

Classic Scottish folk singer (he hates that term that's why I put it there) Alasdair Roberts lurches out of his comfort zone on this his twelfth solo album by casting away his guitar and collaborating with Concerto Caledonia director David McGuinness. McGuinness was charged with arranging Roberts songs and he brought in sonologist Amble Skuse to add electronic treatments.

Alasdair Roberts
Pangs

Deep-rooted Scottish folksman Alasdair Roberts presents a new mixture of traditional and original songs, as nuanced as ever. Unlike his previous album, Pangs is a full-band electric affair, with trusty sidemen Alex Neilson and Stevie Jones on board (plus several other guests). Excellent folk / folk-rock from a modern master. Out on Drag City.

Alasdair Roberts

Alasdair Roberts is a softly spoken Scottish folk musician with a gorgeously fragile voice, a voice that feels entirely perfect for the traditional songs he commonly sings. For this album on Drag City however, all the songs are original. From what I’ve heard though, they feel sound just as special and well-worn.

Alasdair Roberts and James Green
Plaint of Lapwing

Scottish folk genius Alasdair Roberts and Sheffield’s instrument inventor / performer James Green have been brewing on this release for a few years: now it is ready! Roberts provides his very special voice (singing originals as well as older pieces like a Britten arrangement of Thomas Moore), and Green mostly plays his ‘harmoniflute’, a special harmonium / accordion he has created. The resulting Plaint of Lapwing is an intimate and fantastic record.
