Elbow Vinyl, CD & tapes by Elbow at Norman Records

Scruffily-bearded kings of northern rain rock, Elbow have had one of those careers that could be described as slow burning with the word ‘underrated’ bandied about like confetti. The band have in fact enjoyed enormous success particularly with th...read more »

Elbow
Dead In The Boot

Dead in the Boot was a B side collection from Manchester soak Guy Garvey and his not so merry band of brothers. It was released in 2012 and was sequenced in non chronological order to attempt to make it flow as an album. It is resolutely downbeat and showcases a different side to their rainswept rock and Garvey's back of a beermat observations.

Elbow
Live at The Ritz - An Acoustic Performance

Just what we need in these times of crisis - the warm, avuncular sound of Guy Garvey's voice heading up his soft rock mainstays Elbow. Live At The Ritz is a collection of recordings from a selection of acoustic-based shows they did around the release of their last album Giants of All Sizes. It will either be a comforting, familiar blanket or send you racing for the latest Merzbow release but for fans it couldn't be better timed.

Elbow
Build A Rocket Boys!

'Build A Rocket Boys!' is the extremely charmingly named sequel to Elbow's Mercury Prize winning album with that song everyone knows on it. Don't let that give you the wrong impression though, there's still an adventurous rock band under everything. Miraculously, despite all the time he spends on the radio, Guy Garvey's can still belt 'em out with the best of 'em.

Elbow
Giants of All Sizes

I like them tall giants, I like them small giants, I like them brown-haired giants, I like them blonde-haired giants… Unfortunately Giants Of All Sizes, the latest LP from stadium-bothering Mancunians Elbow, doesn’t actually include a cover of Calvin Harris’ ‘The Girls’. Shame, that. What the band’s eighth album does contain is more of that brooding, baroque rock music that Guy Garvey et al do so well. Think of them as Northern England’s answer to The National.

Elbow
The Seldom Seen Kid

The Seldom Seen Kid was the fourth album by professional Mancunians (though actually from Bury) Elbow. The band are indeed as exciting as their name making emotional widescreen northern melancholy led by the gravel vocals of man mountain frontman Guy Garvey. There's also an appearance by fellow Northern soak Richard Hawley on what is ne of the best examples of their three-pints-down-the-line-and-head-on-the-table weep rock.

Elbow
Little Fictions

Look, new Elbow! This band of friendly Mancunians have been known to split opinions in the Norman office, but they are beloved to many, and with good cause. Little Fictions is the band’s seventh album, put together by Garvey and the gang with special contributions from the The Hallé Orchestra and the London Contemporary Voices choir. Sweeping and intimate at the same time, just like Elbow. Released by Universal.

Elbow
Leaders Of The Free World

Leaders of the Free World was the third album from Mancunian plodders Elbow. It perfectly showcased their brand of northern melancholy that would later win them a Mercury Prize and have just married couples swooning at the sheer alcohol-soaked romanticism of it all. Bring a tissue and a pair of ear muffs. Part of a wider vinyl re-issue campaign of their back catalogue.

Elbow and the BBC Concert Orchestra
The Seldom Seen Kid (Live At Abbey Road)

Surely one of Elbow’s finest achievements, the Seldom Seen Kid album is now more than ten years old! To celebrate, here is Elbow plus the BBC Concert Orchestra, performing the album in full with lots of lush extra string bits at the prestigious Abbey Road studios. It's a beautiful performance of a wonderful album, recorded in perfect clarity from a band loved by the BBC even more than they love the Conservative party.

Elbow
Asleep In The Back

A re-issue on two heavyweight vinyls for Asleep In The Back, the 2001 debut studio album from Elbow. Housing a number of wonderful, spectral singles that grazed the lower end of the UK Top 40, it was the first album of theirs to be nominated for the Mercury Prize, an award they would win seven years down the line.

Cast Of Thousands

Guy Garvey's perennial plodders Elbow are having their back catalogue  re-issued which is good news for insomniacs and less good for anyone operating heavy machinery. Cast of Thousands was their second album originally released in 2003 which saw their brand of northern melancholy taking shape even if it there were several years left to wait before they reached mass acceptance.
