Marching Church
Coming Down

Marching Church started life as an experimental solo project for Elias Bender Ronnenfelt, the Iceage frontman and one half of Danish punk duo Var. The project morphed into a band for the 2014 LP The World Is Not Enough. The extra band members did not quell the urge for experimentation, however. Coming Down is an excerpt from an improvised session between six musicians, helmed by Ronnenfelt. Ronnenfelt described the session as “an attempt at playing jazz” but admitted that no one involved was a jazz musician. 12” on Sacred Bones.

Marching Church
Live at Third Man Records

Ellias Bender Ronnenfelt (Iceage’s tortured artist in residence) takes his Marching Church project to Third Man Records. The live treatment suits Ronnenfelt very well. While his Scandi-Nick Cave thing can come across a bit laboured on his studio LPs, the frenzy of recording in the moment lends great bluster to these two pieces of Gothic Americana.

Age Coin
Performance

More dark and brooding electronics from everyone’s favourite Danish label Posh Isolation. Age Coin is what two former members of Lower get up to when they aren’t either playing in Marching Church or producing as Yen Towers: they make techno with a thick industrial edge to it. Performance is their intense and slightly sinister new LP.

Marching Church
Telling It Like It Is

Marching Church is an unexpected side project from a member of ferocious punks Iceage: Elias Bender Rønnenfelt has essentially formed a soulful big band. There are plenty of odd touches and lo-fi production details, but Telling It Like It Is is a proper ‘songs’ record. It’s also really rather good: impressive range Mr Rønnenfelt. Out on Sacred Bones, with a bonus label sampler bundled in.

Marching Church
This World is Not Enough

Nope, not the soundtrack to Brosnan’s Bond shooting hundreds of guards (that was Garbage, remember). This World Is Not Enough is he of Ice Age notoriety indulging another project as part of his ever diversifying portfolio. As Marching Church Elias Bender Rønnenfelt imagines a world where he is rich in wealth and women, enjoying the spoils of luxury. It’s an epically weird turn from the young Dane. Out on CD from Sacred Bones.
