Jake Xerxes Fussell
Out Of Sight

The superbly-named Jake Xerxes Fussell drops his third LP. Paradise Of Bachelors, the label that is fronting Out Of Sight, is an imprint that has previously released work by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. Not only does Fussell’s particularly folksy brand of Americana bear a strong whiff of the Billies, but Will Oldham has also gone on record saying how much he enjoys Fussell’s work. Ergo - Out Of Sight’s one for the BPB fans out there.

What In The Natural World

Jake Xerxes Fussell takes on a brace of (non-)traditional pieces and puts them through his own personal folk processes on his second album What In The Natural World. Guest musicians from the Alan Lomax Archive, The Mountain Goats and Steve Gunn’s band (all somehow named Nathan) also contribute, adding detail to Fussell’s wryly dark vision. LP / CD release on Paradise Of Bachelors.

With a name like that, you can’t go wrong. Boiling together atmosphere and a love for folk sounds and an interest in Persian wars with Greece, Jake Xerxes Fussell has combined some of the finest fingers and hands in folk music to build a record like a house. This self-titled album is out on vinyl, so you can feel that love and warmth.
