Girlpool Vinyl, CD & tapes from this artist at Norman Records
The excellent Girlpool return to the fray with their third LP. What Chaos Is Imaginary finds the band building on the good work of 2017’s Powerplant. That means they have emboldened their post-grunge/indie-punk sound with a newly classic songwriting sensibility that nods to Girls. Tracks such as ‘Where You Sink’ have a cool My Bloody Valentine thing going on.
Powerplant is a surprising move from Girlpool: it features their tight duo expanded to a full band: now they’ve got a drummer! But this doesn’t change the fundamentals of the Girlpool sound, it just increases its power with fierce rhythmic drive. Noisy power-pop, released in a very limited translucent red vinyl (while stocks last).
Earnest, open-hearted songs from duo Girlpool. Having met at legendary DIY venue the Smell, Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad were inspired to create something raw from just guitar, bass and vocals. Chinatown is angsty, heart-on-sleeve stuff that’s sure to strike a chord with many. Out on 7” vinyl from Wichita.
Relief and elation fight eachother as Girlpool release their new record Before the World Was Big! Thank goodness for that; following on from their EP of spry, confrontational jangle pop, they offer more songs about personal growth and identity, intertwined with unbelievable melodies that are modestly stated but deeply felt. Phew.

Keep things simple and rock 'n' roll will be forever: Girlpool are founded on these honourable principles, sticking to guitar and bass and hoping it'll translate louder than the biggest of the big bands. Their self-titled debut is a love letter to the days of DIY, lo-fi nonsense, a place where all the best pop songs came from.
