Famed for writing exquisite pop songs that plough similar furrows to Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson on albums such as Here Be Monsters before turning his hand to being songwriter to the stars, Ed Harcourt follows his expansive major label debut, Furnaces (2016), with a real curveball. Beyond The End is an album of piano-led instrumentals, with inspiration taken from Saite, Mozart, Debussy, Max Richter, Philip Glass and Warren Ellis all imbued with Harcourt’s melodic and mournful sensibilities. LP and CD on Point Of Departure.
Since the mid-2000s, with hindsight, a relatively prolific period, Ed Harcourt’s albums have been a little while in coming. Time Of Dust is his new mini album and follows on from 2013’s piano and vocal triumph, Back To The Woods. Time Of Dust is somewhat darker than previous recordings. Harcourt has been working more as a songwriter for hire rather than a solo artist, Ren Harvieu’s Love is a Melody was written By Harcourt and features here as Love is a Minor Key.
Time Of Dust is available on vinyl LP.
Singer/Songwriter Ed Harcourt has taken on an ambitious project with his latest album Furnaces. Taking a break from writing hits for the likes of James Bay and Paloma Faith, he has enlisted the help of producer Flood to make the colours brighter, the dark bits darker and add an element of danger. Harcourt says his favourite music always runs the gamut of emotions and that’s what he set out to do here. The cover art is by Ralph Steadman, the artist who made Hunter S. Thompson’s books all the more enjoyable.
