Gengahr, a band probably named after a Pokemon, have their second album ready to go, and it’s a twelve track tour of the group’s current capabilities. Where Wilderness Grows is bright and tuneful indie, recorded with Neil Comber at the production controls. Both the CD and the vinyl editions come with a download code for some live recordings. With a name like Gengahr, they should probably be a death metal band who don't hold back on the growls -- but they actually craft squeaky-clean indie rock fashioned after newer Modest Mouse and the clean-guitars of the National, among other artists who like to make sure their melodies are clarified. This 7" consists of two new tracks from the band, "Poweder" and "Bathed In Light".
John Victor from Genghar is being heralded as something of a guitar genius, with comparisons to Jack White and Royal Blood. This is the band's debut single, a double 'A' side featuring tracks 'Powder' and 'Bathed in Light'. The band made their Glastonbury debut on the BBC Introducing stage this year and are making all the right noises. Laid-back indie with a fresh twist.
Big love in the world of hype for London-based Gengahr. She’s A Witch is a catchy little number that could quite easily be an MGMT B-side. Memorable hooks and a subtle inflection of prog stylings to the guitar work. They’ll no doubt soundtrack an advert and get massive. Out on 7” vinyl from Transgressive.
Fresh new debut album from fresh new band Gengahr, with an indie sound led by swooning vocals, wide guitars and warm melodies. The record is released on the Transgressive record label, and while I wouldn’t go so far as to describe the band’s sound as transgressive, Gengahr do provide pleasing sonics.
