Xylouris White
The Sisypheans

Australian drummer Jim White and and Cretan laouto player George Xylouris have known each other since the early ‘90s when Jim White played in Dirty Three with the Bad Seeds Warren Ellis. They have collaborated several times before. The Sisypheans is the duo’s fourth album, the concept of which came from conversations the pair have had over the past 5 years.

Xylouris White
Mother

Mother is the third album by drum and lute combo, Xylouris White. The duo consist of Dirty Three drummer, Jim White and lute-playing Crete native, George Xylouris of Xylouris Ensemble. The album forms the third part of loose trilogy of albums with 2014’s Goats and 2016’s Black Peak. Jim White is known for collaborating with a number of artists including Smog, PJ Harvey, Cat Power, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and most recently on Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett’s Lotta Sea Lice.

Xylouris White
Black Peak

Dirty Three post-rock snoozer Jim White, who isn't a snooker player, once again joins forces with lute player Giorgos Xylouris in their lazily named supergroup Xylouris White. I'll give them a free pass once more as their music continues to be frenetic, moving at joyful accelerations. They follow up Goat with Black Peak, another record of loosely-tightened drums with compelling rhythms, jaunty lute riffing and trembling vocal ecstasy.

Xylouris White
Goats

Xylouris White is the collaboration between legendary Greek lutenist George Xylouris, who has played on over 70 albums and comes from a family of well respected musicians, accompanied by serial collaborator Jim White, not the alt-country singer but the drummer from The Dirty Three, who's played with everyone from Nina Nastasia to Nick Cave to Bill Callahan. As if that wasn't an intriguing enough combination already, the album was recorded by Fugazi/Rites of Spring legend Guy Picciotto.
