Olivia Jean
Night Owl

Olivia Jean sounds more like an algorithmically-generated Third Man Records artist than an actual human who Jack White brought into the fold (and, if the rumours are to be believed, was romantically involved with at one point). But hey ho, I guess the man who probably gets his friends to all call him Spooky Johnny Depp has a nose for a signing too. ‘Night Owl’ is the first single from Jean’s upcoming LP of the same name, and the girl-group-indebted garage-surf tune is indeed a fine bit of Third Manitude. This 7” release of the track comes backed with Jean’s cover of the Bollywood classic ‘Jaan Pehechaan Ho’.

Olivia Jean is back on Third Man with a perhaps more sensibly-titled album than 2014's 'Bathtub Love Killings'. On that debut album Jean played almost every instrument but this time it's a collaborative effort backed by some hip new buddies. The result is a candy sweet album full of fuzzed out neo-surf rock which brings to mind the alien twang of the likes of the B52s and Dick Dale.

Merry Widow / You Really Got Me

Jack White protege and gothic chanteuse Olivia Jean presents a track from her debut album ‘Bathtub Love Killings’ along with her own characteristically sweet and eerie take on The Kinks’ standard “You Really Got Me”. Very much what you might expect from the poppier end of Mr White’s Third Man stable, which is to say it’s impeccably crafted and doesn’t disappoint.

Bathtub Love Killings

The pastoral folk musings of Olivia Jean are finally here, after years of backing work from the instrumentalist who has devoted her time to Third Man Records, working with artists such as Jack White and Wanda Jackson. With 'Bathtub Love Killings', she offers a spry, inventive take on the singer-songwriter album, essentially acting as a one-woman band and making heartfelt but decidedly left-field tunes that recall The Fiery Furnaces.
