The Radio Tisdads Sessions

This is the album that brought Tuareg trance guitar music to a global audience. Recorded using a temperamental, gas-powered generator at the studio for a Tamasheq radio station in the Malian desert, this album is probably Tinariwen's most atmospheric and the one that best represents their grass-roots sound consisting of infectious rhythms, cyclical guitar runs and impassioned chants. A crucial document of the most influential group in one of the most interesting developments in guitar music from recent decades.

Tinariwen are a group of musicians that performed acoustic tunes for parties and weddings before hearing some honest-to-god rock music and deciding it was time to get the Led out (or at least go electric). Their records are politically charged and often ferocious, commenting on the state of Mali, though they also show off a seamless and gorgeous interplay of guitar riffing and ever-grooving rhythms. 'Amassakoul' is being reissued by Modern Classics.
