In four psychedelic and disorienting tracks, Taraval’s EP ‘No Coast’ immediately pushes the listener into claustrophobic isolation. Two tracks in though, and the native San Franciscan adds spatterings of colourful hopefulness, like an unexpected bunch of daffodils in a techno dungeon. It’s the electronic equivalent of the arrival of spring. Taraval has previously released under Four Tet’s Text Records label.
Release number two from Taraval, cannily titled Taraval II. The 12” EP is released by Text, the imprint of Kieran Hebden (aka Mr Four Tet). These four tracks have cool, stuttering rhythms and a fresh feel to them: this certainly sounds like a member of the extended Four Tet family. Limited edition 12”.
Greenspan and Taraval have both spent plenty of time in the orbits of top electronic music recently: Greenspan with Junior Boys and Taraval with Caribou, as well as their respective solo works. But now they present a self-titled EP of duo recordings, edited down from hardware synth jams with a strict no overdubs policy! Exciting explorations, out on Geej.
