Les Big Byrd Vinyl, CD & tapes from this artist at Norman Records
The second LP from Stockholm rockers Les Big Byrd drops courtesy of the reliable PNKSLM Records (Miss World, Shit Girlfriend). Not sure who let them call this one Iran Iraq IKEA (Banksy, perhaps?), but either way this is a record of psych-y, hypnagog-y indie-garage. There are some lovely harmonies here that give tracks like ‘A Little More Numb’ a bit of an Ariel Pink/The War On Drugs feel.

Stockholm’s PNKSLM Recordings (Thee MVP’s, Beach Skulls) drop - surprise, surprise - a new psych-rock record. This one is a 7” that comes courtesy of Les Big Byrd, an old friend of the label. Both tunes on A Little More Numb are the more of the sort of pleasant Krauty psychedelia that characterised last year's ‘Two Man Gang’ single for PNKSLM. Only 400 copies available.

This month's psychedelic sweepstakes involve old-hats Les Big Byrd, whose work on A Records and the like has proved a hefty dosage of deconstructed space rock groove. A 7" hardly seems like enough time for them to say what's on their mind, but they make it work on "Two Man Gang" while also offering a surprising live cover of Guided By Voices "My Valuable Hunting Knife". Multitudes: they contain them.
Following support slots with Goat and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Les Big Byrd commit their Scandinavian space rock to tape with Stockholm Death Star. Fuzzy and full of modern-psych overtones it’s also packed with a distinctly Swedish knack for pop hooks. Out on vinyl 12” from ‘a’ Recordings.
Hoga Nord are a nice little Swedish label releasing things mainly of a psychy persuasion, and Les Big Byrd is no exception. Liquid Sky has four tracks, all imbued with a winter melancholy whilst still being flamingly psychedelic. All on a 12” picture disc that is striking to say the least (nude warriors of some kind?).
Les Big Byrd aka psychedelic, krautrock legends Joakim Åhlund (Caeasars, Teddybears, STHLM), Nino Keller (The Slaves, Ceasars), Frans Johansson (Fireside) and Martin Ehrencrona have collaborated with The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe to produce this stunning single release for Höga Nord Rekords.
