BADBADNOTGOOD / Majestics
Key To Love (Is Understanding)

With their velvety smooth back-catalogue, rich with diverse influences and top featuring guests, BADBADNOTGOOD quickly made a name for themselves since breaking onto the scene in 2010. On this 7" the Canadians collaborate with Majestics, resulting in a soul-splashed earworm hit named 'Key To Love (Is Understanding)'.

Matthew Tavares & Leland Whitty
Visions

Visions is a collaborative album from BADBADNOTGOOD member Leland Whitty and one of the group’s former members, Matthew Tavares. Written in three weeks and laid down in one gigantic recording session, in which the entire suite was performed with a rhythm section of bassist Julian Anderson-Bowes and drummer Matthew Chalmers.

BADBADNOTGOOD & Little Dragon
Tried

Canadian jazz outfit, BADBADNOTGOOD, have teamed up with Swedish electronic band, Little Dragon for a 7” single. The single is called Tried. It should appeal to fans of other acts who combine jazz, pop and other elements such as Flying Lotus, Thundercat and Blood Orange. 7" single on Ninja Tune.

The Man With The Iron Fists

As one might expect from a film co-written and directed by RZA, The Man With The Iron Fists comes with a pretty mighty soundtrack. RZA produces many of the beats here - the rest are handled by, among others, Isaac Hayes and BADBADNOTGOOD - and the whole thing generally oozes that special brand of class that one only gets from Wu-Tang joints. The list of vocalists on this thing is frankly ridiculous - Kanye West, Ghostface Killah, Danny Brown, Pharaohe Monch, Pusha T, Freddie Gibbs...

BADBADNOTGOOD
Lavender (Night Fall Remix) feat. Kaytranada and Snoop Dogg

Collaborations are rarely more effective than this. The coming together of the rapidly ascending Kaytranada and rap veteren Snoop Dogg makes Lavender (Night Fall Remix) by BADBADNOTGOOD a perfect fusion of hip hop and electronica. Its video also captures the Western zeitgeist excellently - as S.D aims a good at a clown-style President Trump.

BADBADNOTGOOD
Late Night Tales

This time it's the turn of the Canadian quartet to pick their favourite tracks and as with all or most Late Night Tales you get an obligatory Boards of Canada track. There's also stuff by Stereolab, Thundercat, the Beach Boys and luckily for anyone thinking this might be a bit on the safe side a bunch of stuff I personally haven't heard of.

BADBADNOTGOOD
IV

Canadian quartet BADBADNOTGOOD fuse jazz, krautrock and hip-hop on IV to sound something like what could only be described an incredible jam session between John Coltrane, Arthur Russell, Can, Herbie Hancock and MF Doom. IV is the follow-up to last year’s Sour Soul - a collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ghostface Killah.

BADBADNOTGOOD
III

The third album from the three jazz/hip-hop lads (jazz-hop?), BadBadNotGood, or BBNG, create moody, dark hip-hop instrumental beats through some excellent drumming, piano and bass playing. It’s exciting, live music which, like the best instrumental hip-hop from the likes of J Dilla and Madlib, creates a story without the need of lyrics.
