Dr. John
Babylon

Babylon was Dr. John’s follow-up to his classic debut Gris-Gris. It was recorded to a backdrop of political and civil unrest with the Vietnam war ongoing and the deaths of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy fresh in the memory. Dr. John was also being pursued by police for a number of misdemeanors. This heavy time for the good doctor found him mixing the swampy voodoo blues of his first album with free jazz and Beefheart-influenced avant-garde elements.

Dr. John
Gris Gris (Original MONO Mix)

Gris Gris was the debut album by Dr. John, originally released in 1968. A mystical swamp-thing of a record, Dr. John mixes blues, psychedelia and proto-funk. It is arguably his finest work. Contains his masterpiece I Walk On Gilded Splinters. Reissue of the original mono mix, sourced from the master tapes on Jackpot.

Dr John
In The Right Place

I once literally bumped into Dr. John in a corridor at Manchester University. He won't remember. This is a 2LP re-press of this 1973 album which turned out to be the biggest selling of his career. Cut from the original analogue masters, you'll hear Top 20 hits like 'Right Place, Wrong Time' sounding the way they are supposed to.

Dr. John
The Sun, Moon & Herbs

Recorded in London but with a New Orleans spirit, “The Sun, Moon & Herbs” arrived towards the end of Dr. John’s voodoo-inspired period, its heavy, foggy atmosphere and nods to Cajun folklore capturing the magic and spirit of the city even from afar. Hypnotic percussion, invigorating choruses, and creepy-cum-beautiful snapshots of The Big Easy.
