A remarkable release here: saxophone titan Colin Stetson has arranged Henryk Gorecki’s much loved 3rd Symphony (one of the best-selling classical works ever) for an ensemble of electronics, guitars and woodwinds that includes members of Liturgy and Arcade Fire. It is a fascinating new spin on the piece: nice on Stetson. On 52Hz.

The eclectic WRWTFWW imprint releases the complete soundtrack to 1993 sci-fi/political thriller ‘Patlabor 2: The Movie’, composed by Kenji Kawai, the man responsible for soundtracks to other cult Japanese films like ‘Ring’ and ‘Ghost In The Shell’. With a beautiful, minimalist take on modern classical music, Kawai’s score evokes urban isolation but also futurism and optimism.

The soundtrack to Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’, the 2021 live-action re-booting of the Japanese anime series and film of the same name. Having also scored the original, singer Yoko Kanno and her band Seatbelts return to provide the musical backdrop, again primarily focussing on jazz motifs.

Isle Of Jura follows up their reissue of Ambient Warrior's 'Dub Journey' with the duo's previously unreleased second album 'II'. Recorded between 1995 and 1999, it fuses dub, bossa nova and tango elements into what could have been a 90s chill-out room staple at the time. Highly evocative of tropical climates, it's a prime slab of Balearic Dub rescued from the vaults.

Finnish musician and composer Laura Naukkarinen - who records as Lau Nau - presents her ninth solo album. Its title referring to functionality of the vintage Buchla 200’s sequencer, ‘5 x 4’ reflects a diverse spectrum of moods, from the introverted ambience of ‘Isopoda’ to the bright, bubbly ‘Hyperiidea’.

The culmination of almost four years of production, 'Staran Wake' is the beautiful self-titled debut album from Andrew Bunsell and the late Tom Relleen of Tomaga, Autotelia, The Oscillation, and Papivores. Cinematic in scope, the multiple layers of instruments, tactile textures, and field recordings traverse light and dark, hypnotizing with repetition, nuance, and subtle tension to create a space for contemplation. We're reminded of everything from John Cale to Muslimgauze and Robert Turman. Highly recommended.

Constant Follower’s Kathleen Stosch provides haunting guest vocals.

Their sixth album release and third for the esteemed electronic label Castles In Space, the revolving-door collective of British electronic musicians Jilk - who on this album consist of Cags Diep, Paul Eadie, Neil Gay, Jon Gibson, Nuala Honan, Emma Hooper, Andreas Laudwein, Kayla Painter, Beth Porter and Jon Worsley - give us ‘Syrup House’. Telling of a fictitious club that can materialise and disappear anywhere, it’s a lush, warm collection of synth-driven dream pop and spectral electronica.

Complete with nice television mast type thing on sleeve and on The Tapeworm is a two track missive from Lightning In A Twilight Hour which of course is the latest name Bobby Wratten (Field Mice, Northern Picture Library etc) is working under. Excitingly it is described as  cascading guitar and minimal percussion mixed with the sound of wind through a Shetland Islands gate. Paris artist Graziella Torrigiani contributes words and voice to the second track.

A vivid sonic patchwork of ambient music, glowing electronica and widescreen soundscapes, updating classic sounds like Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis.

Created for the Flowers In 20th And 21st Century Art exhibition in Dortmund in 2022, ‘Lifetime Of A Flower’ is the soundtrack to an art installation by Japanese artist Eiko Ishibashi and American composer Jim O’Rourke. Both artists improvised along to (sped up) footage of plants growing, this complex layering of sounds reflects the processes of nature.
