A Picture Of Good Health

Sharp, erudite post-punk from Hull’s LIFE here. The group’s sophomore LP A Picture Of Good Health was mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer, a man who previously worked on Parquet Courts’ Wide Awake!. It's no surprise that Mittendorfer accepted this gig too - there’s a bite and snap to tracks like ‘Hollow Thing’ that would have Austin Brown & co nodding approvingly. That Bodega band are probably keen on LIFE as well.

Grown Up

It had to happen sometime. We’ve entered the era which we could call post-Slaves, but we’ll more charitably call post-Sleaford Mods. LIFE - who have an album called Popular Music, but neither of these songs are on it - do a sprightly sort of Sex Pistols-with-a-drum-machine thing on ‘Grown Up’. It’s also quite similar to that song from Nathan Barley called ‘Terrorists Are Gay’.

Popular Music

Hull-based band LIFE present their first album-length-statement of accurate and focused anger. The cannily titled Popular Music is a little like Sleaford Mods if they were also a Fall-ish band with guitars and all. This debut album is bristling with all the brutality of 2017, and it makes for a righteous listen. Released on the Afghan Moon label.
