Prefab Sprout
Andromeda Heights

Andromeda Heights was the sixth album by Prefab Sprout, originally released in 1997. This reissue is part of an ongoing reissue program overseen by the band’s Paddy and Martin McAloon. It received average reviews at the time of release but it definitely requires reassessment. It includes the singles A Prisoner of the Past and the gorgeous opener, Electric Guitars.

Let's Change The World With Music

This Norman Records Description Writer (tm) is, as a few of you may know, the world's biggest Prefab Sprout fan. So I'm pleased to see all their vinyl being re-issued. Even I would probably be hard pushed to describe Let's Change The World With Music as a classic though. It was originally meant to be the follow up to Jordan: The Comeback but was shelved until 2009 and released as the original demos. It's an of-its-era oddball record with some deeply religious overtones. Still, discerning music listeners need to lap up every nook and cranny of Paddy McAloon's ever-shifting muse.

Protest Songs

Protest Songs was the fourth album by County Durham’s pop royalty, Prefab Sprout. It was originally released in 1989 as the follow-up to their hit-filled classic, From Langley Park To Memphis and predecessor to Jordan: The Comeback. It was, however, recorded in 1985 shortly after the band’s second album, Steve McQueen, which is why, artistically, it has more in common with that than the albums either side of it. Nevertheless it is classic piece of the Prefab Sprout discography.

Prefab Sprout
Jordan: The Comeback

Part of a wider re-issue campaign co-ordinated by Sony with the band’s Paddy and Martin McAloon, Prefab Sprout are repackaging their 1990 fifth album Jordan: The Comeback - and, significantly, it’s the first time it’s been released internationally on vinyl. The album arguably represented the group’s most successful attempt to embrace different sounds into their modernist pop aesthetic.

Prefab Sprout
Steve McQueen

Other than the odd '80s hit here and there Prefab Sprout have never had the commercial success they deserve but this could be to do with them never touring and chief sprout Paddy McAloon increasingly resembling some Grizzly Adams/Moondog cross breed. They have though achieved a cult following and critically lauded with McAloon being regarded as a songwriter of the highest order. Steve McQueen was their second album and probably a career highlight. It contains several classics such as When Love Breaks Down, Faron Young and Appetite. Gorgeous music.

From Langley Park To Memphis

Part of a wider re-issue campaign co-ordinated by Sony with the band’s Paddy and Martin McAloon, Prefab Sprout are re-releasing their third studio album From Langley Park To Memphis. Housing their most famous track, the UK no.7 hit ‘The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’, it was originally released in 1988 and arguably represented the apex of their commercial fortunes.

Prefab Sprout
Swoon

Part of a wider re-issue campaign co-ordinated by Sony with the band’s Paddy and Martin McAloon, Prefab Sprout are revisiting their 1984 debut album Swoon. Announcing to the world their distinctive style, it was produced on a small budget yet immediately caught the attention of critics, paving the way for a successful career.

A Life Of Surprises: The Best Of

A double-album re-issue of A Life of Surprises, the 1992 compilation from often-overlooked English pop band Prefab Sprout. Spanning their first five studio albums, from 1984’s Swoon to 1990’s Jordan: The Comeback, plus two exclusive singles ‘The Sound of Crying’ and ‘If You Don’t Love Me’.

I Trawl The Megahertz

I Trawl The Megahertz was originally released as a solo album by Prefab Sprout's  Paddy McAloon in 2003 but was pretty much ignored by everyone apart from us Sprout obsessives. Shame because it is a incredible work...the album is largely instrumental and spoken word, featuring some his most experimental work, such as the 22 minute title track and one track that, according to McAloon, sounds like a depressed Van McCoy. Now that it won't do the brand too much harm, it is now being issued as a Prefab Sprout album. 2LP (featuring an etched side) and CD on Sony.
