Jay Daniel
Tala

Tala is the new LP from up-and-coming Detroit DJ, Jay Daniel. He is making waves in the electronic music world and is a major name in the new Detroit scene. He has a connection to the early ‘90s, however, as his mother, Naomi Daniel, added her vocals to a couple of Carl Craig-produced Planet-E releases - Stars and Feel The Fire. Jay Daniel currently holds a residency in Detroit with friend and mentor, Kyle Hall. Double LP on Watsui High.

Jay Daniel
School Dance EP

Remember your first School Dance? If it was anything like mine, it was a crazy balance between adolescent self-loathing and a hazy alcoholic swagger. That’s exactly what Jay Daniel captures in his new EP, with disorienting decorations circling distantly around sturdy beats that do not care for subtlety.

Jay Daniel
Broken Knowz

What's this? House's rising star Jay Daniel is releasing a full album? I'd say that he's risen to new heights, but his house is deep. Deep down low in smoky basements. The smoke has been upped on this one, with an emphasis on jazzier vibes that stray pretty far from the dangerous lounge territory, retaining natural drum sounds, rhodes-esque keys and vocal percussion - yet still so danceable.

Funkineven (featuring Jay Daniel)
Discipline / Abyss

London's transmitter of all things slinky Funkineven teams up with upcoming Detroit houser Jay Daniel to deliver a slab of big beats on Apron. The A side is armed with a dirty acid bassline that harks straight from the scene of the late 80s/early 90s, complete with a vintage drum machine groove. The B side takes it down a notch, teasing a full rhythm but keeping it restrained, with nervier street-corner melodies dotted throughout.
