Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre
Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre

A nice little project this: Dean Wareham, the voice of Galaxie 500, joins Cheval Sombre to record a selection of ten covers, all themed around Westerns. The material ranges from traditional numbers through Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt, all the way up to The Magnetic Fields, and the performances are very nicely balanced.

Luna Demos

Luna Demos by Dean Wareham doesn’t require much explaining. Here we have 7 demo versions of tracks from his band, Luna’s well regarded 1992 album Lunapark. There are two versions of I Can’t Wait, one with a drum machine and one presumably without. No doubt this will give you an insight into Wareham’s creative process. That’s how these demo albums are usually marketed, anyway. Limited edition LP on Lux Records.

Luna
A Sentimental Education

A Sentimental Education marks the exciting return of indie rock luminaries Luna, after thirteen years away. The album finds them covering songs by some of their favourite artists, a selection you may be surprised to hear leans towards classic rock: Yes, Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie all turn up, albeit in Luna’s own inimitable style. If you get the double CD version, you’ll also receive an EP of original instrumentals.

LUNA
California Blue / Rock Yr Baby

California Blue/Rock Yr Baby by Luna is a 7” featuring two cover versions and will be released alongside the band’s new album A Sentimental Journey. Side A, California Blue is a cover of a song written by ELO’s Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison which was originally released on Roy Orbison’s 1989 ‘comeback’ LP Mystery Girl. The band claimed to have eschewed Jeff Lynne’s production style instead opting for a sound akin to Pavement’s off-kilter country classic, Range Life. The B-Side contains a cover of George McCrae’s disco classic and recent Luna live favourite Rock Yr Baby.

Dean & Britta
13 Most Beautiful... Songs For Andy Warhol's Screen Tests

Dean and Britta fans we know you are out there. Here is a 3 sided LP on the ironically monikered Wouldn't Waste records of the duo's soundtrack to the Warhol pen portraits movie which shows them moving in a naturally cinematic direction with emphasis of glacial synths. Dean of course was in Galaxie 500 and since hooking up with now wife Britta continues with a stream of lovingly prepared recordings. Gonna be hard to get this one with just 500 numbered copies so be swift.

Galaxie 500
This is Our Music

Extremely classic and crucial album here from Galaxie 500, the dream-pop slow-indie band with one of the most particular sounds around. 1990’s This Is Our Music is the last album they released before splitting up, and contains songs as special as ‘Fourth of July’ and their Yoko Ono cover ‘Listen, the Snow Is Falling’.
