Howes
The Weathertenko

At Norman we get sent a lot of records that come with unnecessarily long and florid press releases. Sifting through them and trying to find out things like where the artist was born and what they had for dinner on the night they wrote the lead single can be a bit tedious. As such, Howes’ approach to the form is refreshingly streamlined. The write-up for Howes’ new EP The Weathertenko runs to a grand total of one word - ‘KILLA’. It’s an accurate description of The Weathertenko, an EP of degraded techno and digi-dancehall. 7" rather than 12" too. Less is more.

Howes
Cold Storage

Fresh from the murky territories of Salford is this tape suite from producer Howes. Cold Storage has a greyish vibe, but it ain’t just some drones. Parts of this tape sound like a cheap, dubbed-out version of Rashad Becker’s imagining of alien worlds: like there is a Martian swamp living inside the cassette. Out on Cong Burn Tapes.

Howes
3.5 Degrees

Youthful producer Howes has compositional skills beyond his years, working with modular synth patches with a focus often lacking from many stick-all-the-leads-in-and-hope-for-the-best synth dabblers. 3.5 Degrees is his debut album, and is made up mostly of single-take tracks recorded after days of careful patch design. Strong, multifaceted electronics out on Melodic.
