Golden Teacher
G.D.D.B.

Since they formed in the early 2010s, Glaswegian group Golden Teacher have ascended to the top of the UK’s dance-punk pile. It’s not happened by accident - the band's mixture of NYC punk-funk ala ESG/Liquid Liquid, acid influences and DIY spirit is an irresistible combo. G.D.D.B. chronicles the earliest Golden Teacher sessions from back when they were known as the Green Door Dance Band (hence the title). In these demos, recorded straight to cassette at the band’s practice space, we hear the genesis of the sound and songs that the group would carry through to records like Bells From The Deep End. Vital business. This re-release comes courtesy of Goaty Tapes offshoot House Rules.

The Modern Institute
Another Exhibition

Golden Teacher spin-off The Modern Institute stick it to the bourgeoisie art world with Another Exhibition, complete with a Pseuds’ Corner press release. I would warn against confusing this reissued cassette's staggeringly insipid title with the more recent Another Exhibition at the Modern Institute, but that would spoil the duo’s game. Gritty post-industrial post-techno, sound art and spoken word.

Golden Teacher
No Luscious Life

This here blurb writer thought that this band had broken up. He’s very happy to have been proved wrong. Anyone who has ever seen Glaswegian sextet Golden Teacher live can attest to their brilliance. Featuring members of Silk Cut and Ultimate Thrush, the group’s hyper-rhythmic acid tests are true dance music in the way they sweep you up in these great rushes of feeling. This, their seventh record but first LP, was recorded at old haunt the Green Door Studio.

The Modern Institute

As I'm too stupid to make head nor tail of the wordy press release but what this appears to be is a "a project which examines the rituals of performance, the signifiers of bourgeois culture and the absurdities inherent in the middle class art gaze". Had a quick listen and yeah it's sound art, basically. Odd spoken word vocals over weird rhythms.

LAPS
Who Me?

LAPS (or Ladies As Pimps to give them their full name) is Sue Zuki of Organs Of Love and Lady Two Collars of Golden Teacher, which means that some of Glasgow’s very greatest weirdo talent is represented here. Who Me?, the duo’s second release, is a rad spin through various groovy genres, all played with an anarchistic sense of absurdo-fun. 12” on MIC Records.

Golden Teacher
Sauchiehall Enthrall

Golden Teacher have been crushing Glaswegian dancefloors with their heavily loaded melange of dance genres for some time now: this new four-track EP gives another chance to hear them captured on record. The infectious Sauchiehall Enthrall has been self-released by the band in an edition of 500 copies.

Golden Teacher
First Three EPs

The first three EPs from Glaswegian 6 piece Golden Teacher are compiled on vinyl LP and CD for the very first time. Those original 12” pressings are long out of print, so it’s a thrill to hear the group’s rough-edged and raw-as-hell disco again. By making no-wave synths rub alongside sensuous hand claps and distant vocals this group prove themselves to be the true heirs to Arthur Russell.

Golden Teacher
GDDB

Glasgow based punky disco types Golden Teacher release their debut album on good old fashioned C60 cassette. Its not a debut in the normal kind of way, instead consisting of is collection of tracks and sounds compiled form hours of cassette recordings of early jams which later became their first two EP's. Its fun stuff, they mangle a discofied strut out of the lo-est of lo-fi recordings. Minimal dirty compressed disco which will appeal to fans of Factory Floor and the (early) DFA label.
