Fire! Orchestra
Arrival

For those who haven't heard of Fire! Orchestra what you need to do is imagine a big band willing to channel all its resources into one thing: weight. Their previously resources have been heftier than most most metal releases, and though they've trimmed down from 28 to 14 members for Arrival it doesn't make them any less potent. Sublime in the way that music so rarely is. On Rune Grammofon.

Fire! Orchestra
Actions

A rare new interpretation of avant-garde composer Krzysztof Penderecki´s ‘Actions For Free Jazz Orchestra’, commissioned by Poland’s Sacrum Profanum festival in 2018 and performed by Mats Gustafsson and a drastically altered iteration of Fire! Orchestra. Actions is longer than Penderecki’s original score and takes liberties with it, injecting fresh perspective into a classic.

Fire! Orchestra
Ritual

Fire! Orchestra are of course the mutated super-version of the mighty Fire! trio, adding up to 21 members on this record. The title Ritual is about right, with this many (mostly Swedish) major musicians grouped together to summon up energetic, elemental power. Heavy and ecstatic, there aren’t many other groups comparable to this one.

Fire!
The Hands

Fire! is of course the fabulous power trio of Andreas Werlin (Wildbirds & Peacedrums), Johan Berthling (Tape) and Phil’s least favourite saxophonist Mats Gustafsson (of over a million different avant-jazz projects and combinations). The Hands is their sixth record of dark, simmering, propulsive, muscular music, and if you liked their previous noise-jaz-rock-kraut explorations, you’ll love this too. On Rune Grammofon.
