Prins Thomas
Ambitions

Norwegian producer Prins Thomas has a surprise in store on his sixth LP Ambitions - he’s started using vocals! Well, kind of anyway. Lead single ‘Feel The Love’ features Thomas layering dreamy, reverb-drenched sampled harmonies over the kind of Nordic Balearicism we’ve come to know and love him for. It sets the tone nicely for the rest of Ambitions, a record on which Thomas claims direct inspiration from Haruomi Hosono, Ricardo Villalobos, Shinichi Atobe and a few others.

Smalltown Supersound 25 (The Movement Of Free Spirit Mixed By Prins Thomas)

Smalltown Supersound is one of the good ones. Over the past quarter-century Joakim Haugland’s label has grown from a teenage bedroom operation into one of the most respected imprints in contemporary electronics. To celebrate their milestone birthday Haugland has enlisted the services of Smalltown veteran Prins Thomas for The Movement Of Free Spirit, a mega-mix of tunes released on STS down the years. The CD boxset contains three mixes and the first one of those has been pressed for the vinyl edition.

Bugge Wesseltoft & Prins Thomas
Bugge Wesseltoft & Prins Thomas

Prins Thomas has been keeping busy hasn’t he. After a solo full-length, a collaborative LP with Bjorn Torske, some remixes and a bunch of EPs back in 2017, he’s now readying a new album alongside Norwegian jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft. The five lengthy tracks here meet somewhere in-between Wesseltoft’s downtempo lounge-hop and the spacey disco we usually associate with Thomas. It’s a very pleasant affair. Out, of course, on Smalltown Supersound.

Prins Thomas
5

Prins Thomas must be on top of the world: he’s got both a new album (this here 5) and a new label (Prins Thomas Musik) appearing at once. 5 plucks tracks from various recording sessions, mapping out a few of Prins’ premium approaches to production, including gorgeous tracks too slow for the dancefloor.

Bjørn Torske & Prins Thomas
Arpa

‘Arpa’ was recorded in the same sessions that spawned Bjørn Torske & Prins Thomas’s 2017 collaborative LP Square One. However, the track didn’t really fit into the run of that record, so they’ve decided to give it its own release, backed by a remix and a percussion-heavy dub. Each of the entries will both test and reward an adventurous DJ. Out via Smalltown Supersound.

Prins Thomas
Dungen & Sun Araw Remixes

Two rather interesting producers give some of Prins Thomas’ groovy work a going-over on this 12”. Gustav Estjes of psychish rock band Dungen does ‘D’ and weird-dub sound-soup worker Sun Araw takes on ‘B’. Plus, a previously unreleased original Prins track in the form of ‘J’. 12” on Smalltown Supersound.

Bjørn Torske & Prins Thomas
Square One

Norwegian producers Bjorn Torske and Prins Thomas both experiment with disco and house their crossovers with kraut and world music. Separately had releases on multiple labels before both ending up on the Smalltown Supersound. Their collaboration has become loose and improvised avantgarde disco, recording multiple live takes and sorting through it all in the editing stage. A great mix of the organic and produced.

Prins Thomas
D (Hieroglyphic Being Remixes)

An exciting remix package follows up to the increasingly prolific Prins Thomas’ ambient record Principe Del Norte and the Paradise Goulash series. The Hieroglyphic Being remixes track 'D' with two treatments,  this being the first remix 12” in what will be an on-going series. Remixes by The Orb and Sun Araw are to follow.

Prins Thomas
Principe De Norte

Prins Thomas has decided to embark on an IDM-style ambient journey, stripping most (not all) of the drums out of his work and focusing on the long-form development of tones and melodic materials. And long-form it is: Principe Del Norte spans 4 LPs (or 2 CDs). The jumbo collection is available on Smalltown Supersound.

Prins Thomas
The Orb Remixes

There comes a time in some lucky producers’ lives when they receive they honour of having their own work remixed by a bona fide legend. That time has come for Prins Thomas, who here gets a pair of tracks from his Principe Del Norte album reworked by The Orb themselves! These spacey wonders are a treat for listeners as well as for Prins: available from Smalltown Supersound.

Prins Thomas
Gerd Janson Remixes

House and disco wizard Prins Thomas hands his soulful productions to best pal Gerd Jansen. The results, on this vinyl 12” from Smalltown Supersound, are playful and heavy, full of lush instrumentation and tough percussion. The wax includes two remixes as well as two new tunes from Thomas himself.

Prins Thomas
C Remixes

Scandinavian groove hero Prins Thomas sits back and lets some of his pro-producer pals take his track C to some new places. Young Marco and I:Cube both turn in inspiring takes, while Ricardo Villalobos has two goes at it. And Thomas himself adds a ‘Diskomiks’ of his own track for good measure. Double 12” pack on Smalltown Supersound.

Lindstrom & Prins Thomas
Lindstrom & Prins Thomas

10 years on, the debut album from Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas is reissued in a luxurious style well-suited to the elegant groove of the music. The whole smooth collection fills three LPs, and is boosted by two previously unreleased tracks on a 7” too. So that’s four pieces of vinyl, housed in a very fine gatefold sleeve, on Eskimo Recordings.

Prins Thomas
Bobletekno (Bugge Wesseltoft Versions)

In a pleasingly leftfield release, this 12” finds a tune by Scandinavian space-disco dude Prins Thomas being re-interpreted for piano by Bugge Wesseltoft, a jazz pianist. Bobletekno gets played on a proper grand piano on side A, and an electric keyboard on side B. This release is out on Horisontal Mambo, a new sub-label from Full Pupp with a specifically playful / experimental remit.

Prins Thomas
presents Paradise Goulash

Norway’s Prins Thomas presents a mammoth three disc mix of his favourite musics, an eclectic collection suitably named Paradise Goulash. Everyone from Actress to Morphosis to Ricardo Villalobos to Robert Hood to Luke Abbott… Very high quality selections, including some bold combos. Triple LP or triple CD on Eskimo Recordings.

Prins Thomas
Toransu

The Full Pupp label are celebrating their 50th release in style, with their first double 12” set to date. The mighty Prins Thomas is the producer seeing them over the anniversary mark, with several new tracks, some expanded 12” versions of older ones, and a remix of ‘Stockholm Express’ from Chmmr.

Prins Thomas
presents Paradise Goulash Versions

Prins Thomas’ Paradise Goulash is an expansive experimental DJ mix in which Prins journeys freely through stacks of his favourite musics. On his way he produced a few new remixes of selected tracks by the likes of Hieroglyphic Being, Actress and Box Saga: these exclusive versions are now presented in full on this double 12”. Nice.

Prins Thomas
presents Paradise Goulash Edits

Prins Thomas’ Paradise Ghoulash is a high-quality curated compilation of simply lovely grooving music, which he has hand-mixed together into a banging 3 disc set. This release however grabs 4 selections from amidst the full mix, letting them stand on their own impressive merits. A great sampler, and a great 12” in its own right. On Eskimo Recordings.

Prins Thomas
III

Without wanting to show off too much and stick to a tradition that he has developed over his previous two albums, I and II, Prins Thomas decided to call his third long-player, III. Thomas does admit, however, that musically it belongs somewhere between his first two albums, less freeform than his first yet more organic and less polished than his second. III is available on double vinyl LP and CD. Vinyl version includes CD.
