Chelsea Wolfe
Birth of Violence

Birth of Violence is the seventh album by Chelsea Wolfe. It is the follow-up to 2017’s Hiss Spun. She cites myriad influences from Aalyiah to Suicide to Sunn O))) to Townes Van Zandt. She does her best to be unpigeonholable but if you want a genre as a touchstone, perhaps experimental ambient doom metal-folk? On Sargent House.

Chelsea Wolfe
The Grime and The Glow

Marrying the gentle intimacy of folk, the atmospheric voodoo of death rock, and the bleak, sullen nihilism of black metal, Wolfe's sound effectively cast a genre all her own: a cavernous rumble, marked by stuttering drums, ethereal synths, and a wash of guitar, all very much in the service of one of the most hypnotic, celestial voices in modern music.

Hiss Spun

Over her five previous LPs, California’s Chelsea Wolfe has won many plaudits for her grand, gothic take on the classic singer-songwriter tradition. If Hiss Spun’s lead single ‘16 Psyche’ is anything to go by, all of the parts remain in good working order. If anything, Hiss Spun will probably up the doom-rock ante - Queens of the Stone Age axeman Troy Van Leeuwen appears frequently on the album, and it was recorded by Converge’s Kurt Ballou.

Chelsea Wolfe
Live At Roadburn 2012

In 2012, the good people of the Netherlands’ Roadburn festival were treated to a set from dark and heavy electric-folkster Chelsea Wolfe. The performance was strong enough to merit a full blown release, and so the Burning World label have pressed up Live At Roadburn 2012 onto red vinyl, in a limited edition. Killer.

Chelsea Wolfe
Abyss

Chelsea Wolfe uses her fifth album to plumb the depths of the subconscious, via the medium of music that alternates between her intimate, close mic-ed murmurs and crashing heavy rock action. There is a strong sense of purpose in Abyss’ brutal contrasts: Wolfe has made a very good record here. On Sargent House.
