Paul Woolford Vinyl, CD & tapes by Paul Woolford at Norman Records
Special Request is Paul Woolford’s project for exploring his love of raved-up pirate radio, and new album Belief System is something of an epic release. This monster was assembled with sounds from the archives, contact mic recordings and modular synth activity, as well as the usual production tools, so there are some particularly wild noises flaring up all over this record. Double CD and quadruple LP editions available, on Houndstooth.

On Forevermore/No Requests UK producer Paul Woolford unveils a jagged piece of throwback house and then invites his own jungle-inspired alias Special Request for the remix. This vinyl 12” show the sense of humour and deep knowledge of club and soundsystem culture that Woolford has built his reputation on.
With that recent snafu over their potential permanent closure apparently resolved, Fabric can get back to promoting and releasing quality music, such as this new mix CD from Special Request, a veteran of the club’s line-ups. FABRICLIVE 91 features thirty tightly-mixed tracks, including several brand new Special Request productions and a little bit of Polygon Window.
The one born Paul Woolford delves into the annals of U.K. rave culture once more for this two-track release. ‘Unknown’ is not a million miles from Mosca’s retro-garage classic ‘Bax’, shuffling along pleasingly with a liberal sprinkling of wubs and pull-up effects; ‘Transmission’ is sparse, spooky and weighty. Mastered by Matt Colton. Vinyl only.
