Seekersinternational
The Guncontrolla

Gun sounds on record are nothing new. At this point, we’ve all listened to tracks that feature tones of someone cleaning, loading or shooting their firearm. However, Seekersinternational’s The Guncontrolla is the first music we can remember hearing that’s been made from samples of ‘field-stripping’ - the practice of disassembling and reassembling old weapons. The Canadian group turn the clicks and clicks into a potent, eerie bit of dubwise concrete on The Guncontrolla. Think Muslimgauze.

SKRS
Paradise Magic Traxx

Berceuse Heroique sub-label Ancient Monarchy drop an EP of post-club sampledelia by SKRS. There’s plenty going on stylistically across Paradise Magic Traxx - juke, Dilla-style hip-hop, lo-fi house, dub and dancehall are just a few of the influences that consistently rear their heads. In aesthetic more than sound it references the faded rave memories of Zomby and Actress. File next to Hype Williams.

Seekers International & MX7
Inna Dancehall Showdown

Dancehall-madness-crew Seekers International go back-to-back and side-to-side with MX7 for a set of really wild sound parties. Inna Dancehall Showdown is of course grounded in dancehall, but the sound-field is packed with weird electronic noises, garbled speech samples, Spaghetti Western vibes and all sorts else, making for really heady vibes. Blood red vinyl on ICS Library Records.

Seekers International
RunComeTest! EP

A hazy pairing of stripped back but snazzy dub jams with contemporary touches adding atmosphere and abstraction. The deep bass and subtle beats are augmented with space echoed voices, pulsing keys and pad textures. Singular stuff from a unique collaborative force, brought from obscurity into the light.

Seekersinternational
RaggaPreservationSociety

Mixtape originally released on only 80 cassettes now gets a proper vinyl release from Sneaker Social Club and Disktopia. Canadian producer and crate digger brings a chaotic mix of dubs and ragga jungle where elements are so smashed together you can’t tell if it’s a transition or a drop, but it’s filled with pure dancehall soul.

Seekers International
Yardflex45

Radical digital dub fuckery from 2008, reissued by Seekers International themselves. Yardflex45 is where these wild producers made their start, with stuttering click-beats and selective reverb all over the joint. Still strange and amazing after all these years. Released in an edition of 300 hand-numbered 7”s.
