Rats On Rafts
Excerpts From Chapter 3: The Mind Runs A Net Of Rabbit Paths

Rats On Rafts are described in the press blurb as punk-fuelled noiseniks but in the very next paragraph this, their third album is compared to the more sophisticated sounds of Van Dyke Parks, the Beach Boys circa Smile and Scott Walker. So it seems they've moved on somewhat from scrappy beginnings. Could be very interesting indeed ....and just what is that title all about?

Rats On Rafts / De Kift
Rats On Rafts / De Kift

Rats On Rafts / De Kift is not a split, no no. This is a full-blooded collaboration, with the two different flavours of Dutch joy being combined into one single band. The songs played are taken from Rats On Rafts and De Kift’s respective catalogues, with punky flair and ensemble brass mixing remarkably well together. Fun stuff on the Fire label.

Rats On Rafts
Some Velvet Morning

Rats On Rafts boldly take on Some Velvet Morning, a classic tune by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra. Their take is a low-slung noisy-rocky version, with howled vocals that Nancy would never have approved of. The B-side is taken from their last album, the acclaimed Tape Hiss. 7” vinyl on Fire Records.

Tape Hiss

Dutch garage-post-punk from Rats On Rafts. After a successful debut, this second record is even more precision-tooled, tightening up their thrashing, surfy sound for greater mosh-making efficiency. Tape Hiss is released on CD and vinyl, but, despite the title, not on cassette: missing a trick there. On the Fire label.
