Giulio Aldinucci
Disappearing In A Mirror

Giulio Aldinucci’s gradual path to choral sample-scamblin’ stardom has led him from Time Released Sound and Dronarivm up to this second outing for Karlrecords. Disappearing in a Mirror finds the Italian sound designer driving his sacred loops through searing distortion, droning crescendos and tenuous titles such as ‘Aphasic Semiotics’.

Giulio Aldinucci
Borders and Ruins

Karlrecords (Konstrukt & Keiji Haino, Arovane) repress Guilio Aldinucci’s 2017 LP Borders And Ruins. This is an ambient LP of rare intensity, though not one that fits easily into the ‘dark ambient’ subgenre. While cuts like ‘Division’ are characterised by the sort of bleak granulated soundscapes one finds in the work of both bvdub and Shackleton, the Gothic beauty of ‘Venus Of The Bees’ and ‘Parole’ is more akin to the frosty weightlessness of some Posh Isolation releases.

Giulio Aldinucci
Spazio Sacro

‘Spazio Sacro’ (“sacred space”) comprises of seven tracks that are characterized by field recordings taken in various sacred places as a study of how the artifacts and traditions of human spirituality and ritual such as processions or the architecture of religious buildings can influence the definition of specific soundscapes.

Ian Hawgood + Giulio Aldinucci
Consequence Shadows

More somnolent, slow-burning electroacoustic ambience courtesy of Ian “Home Normal” Hawgood and rippling fieldrec soundscapist Guilio Aldinucci. There are sometimes more layers to these arrangements than first meet the ear, as it seems great care has gone into ensuring all elements blend into undifferentiated calm as easily as possible. On duty for the last twenty minutes, Stijn Hüwels contributes a remix in exactly the same style.

Goccia

Giulio Aldinucci gets good and atmospheric on Goccia, his first album in four years. There is plenty to be heard here, with long swathes of thick ambience and properly rhythmic sections freely interchanging: and he hasn’t forgotten to imbue everything with melodies either. Goccia is released on CD by the Home Normal label.

Francesco Giannico & Giulio Aldinucci
Agoraphonia

The pieces on Agoraphonia have been devised and assembled by Francesco Giannico and Giulio Aldinucci, but credit should also go to those who contributed sound samples in response to a request for ‘town square’ sounds. The results have the lively bustle of communal spaces, underlined by creeping drones and electro-acoustics. Edition of 250, on Dronarivm.

Pleq and Giulio Aldinucci
The Prelude To

Pleq and Giulio Aldinucci meld their two approaches together for The Prelude To, resulting in a smoothed-out ambient glitchscape, basically. Field recordings and acoustic instruments are filtered into the mix subtly. Several remixes are included on the album, from the likes of Olan Mill and The Green Kingdom. On The Long Story Recording Company.
