John Carpenter
Halloween - 40th Anniversary Edition

The worlds of film and music are hell-bent on squeezing every last drop of juice from the reboot of John Carpenter’s Halloween. This one here is not to be confused with a soundtrack album for the 40th anniversary movie - it is, in fact, the 40th anniversary edition of the ORIGINAL 1978 score. Apparently the first official release of this soundtrack was a remixed version, so for this new edition Carpenter’s partner-in-crime Alan Howarth has faithfully copied over the film's audio tracks in the same order in which they appear on-screen.

John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies
Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Expanded Edition)

Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Expanded Edition) sees Halloween creator John Carpenter team up with his son, Cody Carpenter and Godson, Daniel Davies to score the 2018 version of the popular horror flick. The score is underpinned by several reworkings of Carpenter’s original synth soundtrack main theme. A must for Carpenter fans.

Prince Of Darkness

Often regarded as one of John Carpenter and Alan Howarth's greatest scores, 'Prince Of Darkness' is an essential soundtrack for all you lovers of spooky synth music and horror films. Packed with 80s synth-riffing and a bit of Carpenter's trademark DIY eeriness, the score perfectly complements the bizarre supernatural horror film.

Big Trouble In Little China

It's an unusual one this but it had to happen eventually; '80s kitsch cult movie classic 'Big Trouble In Little China' gets its soundtrack re-released and given the full Mondo treatment on gatefold double-LP with lovely artwork by Phantom City Creative. With idiosyncratic composition and production from John Carpenter's own studio machines in partnership with Alan Howarth, the score features heavily pulsing synths and is both bouncily upbeat and darkly haunting. Impressive, eh? Unique.

John Carpenter
Dark Star - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Dark Star was the first feature film that John Carpenter directed: he also, naturally, provided the soundtrack, a smorgasbord of synthy bleeps, bloops and tones. This reissue on we release whatever the fuck we want comes as a 12” with the OST and a 7” featuring an Alan Howarth rework and a locked groove of sound effects.

They Live

"Record Store Collapses Under Weight of John Carpenter Re-issues" was an earlier the Onion-style headline we once used to try to make you crack a smile and lo and behold here is another re-press from the soundtrack lord. This time it's the soundtrack for They Live one of his urban Western type films with a fist fight and a sci-fi twist. One of the most interesting things about this re-issue is that it has artwork designed by Alan Hynes which reveals hidden messages when you put on the enclosed pair of sunglasses. Worth the £35.99 price tag alone for that.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Round three for the Halloween franchise brought big witchy vibes to the franchise, but most important for our current interests here is that John Carpenter and Alan Howarth took a thrilling new approach for their soundtrack! Yep, Season of the Witch features massive synth business, big enough to have become an underground dancefloor staple in places. Out on Death Waltz.

Halloween (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Halloween is the latest Classic American Movie to be wrent from the tomb of history and paraded around the cultural flatland that is the Millennial West. The distinction that sets this latest big-budget remake apart from your King Kongs, your Tomb Raiders and your Jumanjis is that whoever’s helming the new one managed to get the main reason it was good in the first place - John Carpenter - back on board. Carpenter’s also redone the music, which is what we have here. Yes, it may be spooky. But you know what’s really scary? The snake of popular culture devouring its own tail.

Lost Themes II

The horror master returns with a swiftly followed up sequel to his 2014 album 'Lost Themes'. Several collaborators from that project remain including Carpenter's son Cody but this time the composers had the luxury of spending time collaborating in the same city. This has led to a more focussed work with a wider palette of sounds. Next stop for Carpenter? The road.

Halloween II

It's getting to the point where it feels like every other LP in the Norman stockroom is some sort of John Carpenter reissue - surely a testament to the enduring appeal of the work of the legendary film director/composer. 1981’s ‘Halloween II’ saw Carpenter linking up with Alan Haworth to rehash the music of the hugely successful first ‘Halloween’ film for its follow-up. You know the drill by now - spooky synths, ominous bass, off-kilter melodies that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, that sort of hting. This new Death Waltz edition (when is a John Carpenter release not the death Waltz edition these days?) contains new artwork by John Mann.

The Fog - New Expanded Edition Original Film Soundtrack

John Carpenter not only directed his 1980 spooky pirate movie The Fog, he also personally soundtracked it. Is there no end to the man’s talents? Dramatic organs and creepy synth arpeggios do an admirable job of setting the tone. And it was remastered by erstwhile collaborator Alan Howarth. This double disc set on Silva Screen contains 20 minutes of music not previously released.
