Jake Bugg
Hearts That Strain

Recorded in Nashville with some of the best players in the history of recorded music, lord knows what these veterans of Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick sessions felt about this nasal voiced Nottingham upstart. Still, Bugg is nothing if not ambitious and this latest soul influenced opus contains collaborations with Black Keys Dan Auerbach amongst others.

Jake Bugg
On My One

As far as I am aware, this is Jake Bugg’s first foray into production after his previous album, Shangri La was produced by none other than Rick Rubin. A bit of a leap for Bugg perhaps who wrote, played and produced everything except three tracks produced by Jacknife Lee. Perhaps this is why the album is called On My One and has such insular, inflected track titles as ‘Love Hope and Misery’ and ‘Gimme the Love’ which sees Bugg begging for love in the chorus. It’s yet another move away from the boy-with-guitar sound of his first album and one with bold ambitions for rock/pop success.

Gimme The Love

Jake Bugg works out his unusual-sounding flow over a swaggering rock-as-hip-hop instrumental on this preview of his forthcoming album On My One. He insists that the listener Gimme The Love, and sounds pretty worked up about it: both vocal and production have an aggressive heft to them. 7” single on Virgin EMI.

Shangri La

Jake Bugg is back with his second studio album Shangri La. Produced by Rick Rubin, the record is named after his studio in Malibu, California, where the recording took place in the summer of 2013. Writing a much anticipated follow up album was never going to be an easy to task for the much celebrated singer-songwriter, yet this record delivers on every note, and more...
