Julia Holter
Aviary

It may well be difficult to think of a record more expansive than Julia Holter's 2015 opus 'Have You In My Wilderness' but it seems like 'Aviary' might just do it. This 15 song record explores the feeling of cacophony we feel on living in the modern world and a search for solitude and sweetness. Holter's theatrical vocals and cinematic synth work will hopefully find us all a solution.

Don't Make Me Over / Hello Stranger

Julia Holter has a penchant for taking classic pop tunes and abstracting them into her own fascinating world of chamber pop and ambient. 'Don't Make Me Over' offers up two on a double A-side: the eponymous cover of the Dionne Warwick song, as well as the gloriously sustained and droning "Hello Stranger", which is a cover of Barbara Lewis' originally bright and bouncy soul tune. Holter makes it terrifying and tragic.

In The Same Room

Julia Holter fans rejoice: here we have a set of live-in-the-studio performances of Holter material from each of her four albums. In The Same Room is the first in Domino’s new ‘Documents’ series, in which artists perform live in a studio, and it is a great beginning: Holter’s music sounds as crystal clear as ever on these recordings. CD and double LP editions available.

Have You In My Wilderness

‘Have You In My Wilderness’ is a collection of dreamy, atmospheric, intimate ballads textured with the imagery inspired by various literary references, exploring familiar themes such as love and human relationships in a way that is enigmatic and slightly unnerving. The record seems to be drawn from a more personal source than her first two releases.
