Nightports with Matthew Bourne
Nightports with Matthew Bourne

Here we see the celebrated Matthew Bourne taking up the challenge of Adam Martin and Mark Slater’s Nightports project. Starting with sounds generated by Bourne’s piano/prepared piano playing, the base materials are then manipulated into winding corridors of composition reminiscent of Nils Frahm, Max Richter and the recent collaborative record between Brian Eno and Tom Rogerson, Finding Shore.

Matthew Bourne
moogmemory

Matthew Bourne recorded moogmemory using 80’s synth oddity the Memorymoog, and nothing but the Memorymoog. That means that the idiosyncratic sequencing within each track is a product of the memory banks of the vintage machine. Better known as a pianist, it seems Bourne has a knack for old electronics. Released by the Leaf Label.

Matthew Bourne
Isotach

Jazz pianist Matthew Bourne returns to working on solo piano pieces after his moog focussed Moogmemory and working with Franck Vigroux on reworking Kraftwerk’s Radio-Activity. Gorgeous and isolated piano works with sparse cello parts lull you into his world. For fans of Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds etc.

Radioland: Radio-Activity Revisited

Radioland is a project for covering Kraftwerk, made up of Franck Vigroux and Matthew Bourne (accompanied live by visual artist Antoine Schmitt). Taking on a classic like Radio-Activity is a bold move, but they pull of the delicate balance between staying faithful to the material and slavishly copying it. Worth a listen! The LP edition comes with a CD, and the CD edition comes in a 20-page book.
