Mark Lanegan
Straight Songs Of Sorrow

Mark Lanegan has been rather prolific over the last few years. Straight Songs of Sorrow is an album based on his life, a soundtrack to his autobiography Sing Backwards and Weep. The songs take us through a story of rock ‘n’ roll life, or grunge ‘n’ roll. It documents his battle with hard drugs, the Seattle grunge scene he was at the centre of and his general ups and downs, all told with some humour and hope..

Somebody's Knocking

Somebody’s Knocking is the eleventh solo album by ex-Screaming Trees frontman, Mark Lanegan. Lanegan says that Joy Division, The Stooges, Love and, perhaps surprisingly, New Order have all influenced this album. Despite having always been a fan of electronic music, the sounds are now making their way into his otherwise fags-and-whiskey-drenched gruff rock sound as it’s what he listens to most these days.

Screaming Trees
Sweet Oblivion

Screaming Trees were of course the birthplace for whiskey-soaked everywhere man Mark Lanegan but were also vital players in the Seattle grunge scene even if they didn't get the same mainstream success as Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Sweet Oblivion was their most successful album and had its own hit single in Nearly Lost You. Now nicely re-issued to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Whiskey For The Holy Ghost

Mark Lanegan’s second solo album is back on the streets again in the form of this double gatefold LP. Whiskey For The Holy Ghost is dark and dramatic and deeply American, pulling away from the grunge sound of his Screaming Trees (although there is a guest appearance from Dan Peters of Mudhoney). Reissued by Sub Pop.

Field Songs

First vinyl edition of Mark Lanegan’s Field Songs here, arrived courtesy of Sub Pop. The artist’s fifth LP was originally issued in 2001 and saw him both doubling-down on his sound and broadening his palette. This is still music steeped in American roots styles - country, folk, ballads - but we now find him tastefully incorporating influences from beyond the borders of the U.S.A. Lanegan’s gritty burr of a voice remains enthralling. Tom Waits is the obvious touchstone for Field Songs.

Gargoyle

The gravel-voiced ex-Screaming Trees frontfella Mark Lanegan created this new album with substantial help from ex-Exit Calm man Rob Marshall, who donated ten pieces for Lanegan to add to. The resulting Gargoyle album is a gothically moody epic of alternative rock, anchored by Lanegan’s rich vocals and some fierce guitars. On Heavenly.

The Winding Sheet

Mark Lanegan’s first solo album is back on the streets again. The Winding Sheet dates back to 1990, when Lanegan was still immersed in the murky heart of grunge with Screaming Trees. His solo work mixes the dark weight of that music with a true songwriter’s dramatic touch. The Winding Sheet features a guest appearance from Kurt Cobain, and this Sub Pop reissue includes an extra track.

Bubblegum

It's safe to say that Mark Lanegan knows everyone. For his 2004 album Bubblegum he drafted in members of Queens of the Stone Age, Afghan Whigs, Guns 'n' Roses as well as his own ex-wife. His voice has become a somewhat malleable thing over the years but here growls what it is good at - whiskey-soaked bluesy churns about death, guns and alcohol.
