D'Arcangelo
D'Arcangelo

Reissue of D’Arcangelo’s debut EP from 1996, originally released on the now defunct Aphex Twin run label Rephlex. There’s a lot of Aphex Twin’s Caustic Window era to be found here. The first three tracks present distorted techno-come-IDM through industrial scrapes and clangs at a faster breakbeat pace offset by the closing tracks which soften and turn to acid and ambient playfulness.

D'Arcangelo
Somewhere In Time

Suction Records have been combing the archives of Roman braindance legends D’Arcangelo recently, reissuing their eponymous 1996 EP as well as putting out a record of contemporaneous, largely unreleased material entitled II. Somewhere In Time collects those two vinyl on one CD as well as opening and closing with exclusives. As such, the release shows the pair running the full gamut of their sound, from brain-bending industrial electronics to warm, friendly synth-pop.

D'Arcangelo
II

Suction Records follow up their reissue of D’Arcangelo’s 1996 Rephlex Records EP with this new archival release. Four of the six pieces on II were tracked around the same time as the Roman duo’s self-titled debut, though they have never seen the light of day until now. They’re the typically mind-melting mix of braindance, acid, electro, techno and IDM that the Italian veterans have spent the subsequent years stamping their authority on. The release is fleshed out by ‘AOM*2’ and ‘Diagram IX’, both long out of print until now.

D'Arcangelo

Roman techno vets D’Arcangelo drop a chirpy techno four-track on Happy Skull (Throwing Shade, Andreas Gehm). As 808s twitter away in the background, the D’Arcangelo brothers layer twinkling synths atop them on tracks like ‘Saba Tree’ and ‘Pull Seven’. As well as obvious chiptune, acid and IDM influences we also see an intriguing foray into Hessle Audio-style post-dubstep on closer ‘Korty’.
