Commodo
Rikers

12” of cluttered dubstep bangers coming to us via Deep Medi Musik. ‘Rikers’ - and its b-side ‘Daytona’ - by Commodo is noticeable for its busy and ever shifting percussion, pairing sudden jabs of bass with melodies wholly elastic in nature. Its groove laden stuff that’s equally open to exploration.

Commodo
Dyrge

Despite being a straight soundsystem killer for a good decade now, Commodo remains one of dubstep’s more overlooked voices. How What Time, his 2016 LP for Black Acre, was a bassweight masterpiece that deserved more recognition than it got. Hopefully Dyrge, his new double-10” EP for the Bristolian imprint, will turn heads his way once more.

Commodo
How What Time

Commodo’s fearsome UK bass music borrows from trip-hop, grime, dubstep and soundsystem culture, but the result is still distinctively his own. On How What Time he also incorporates sounds from middle eastern music and a willingness to sample just about anything in the pursuit of a beat. MC Trim lends a hand with some aggro vocals too.

Commodo
Set It Straight

Commodo is an underground heavy hip-hop producer, soon to land his debut full-length album. First though, we have this sharp 12” single, with Set It Straight featuring Croydon’s Rocks FOE spitting some ferocious bars, backed by the instrumental ‘Solid Gold Telephone’. Inventive productions, loaded with bass-weight. 300 copies on Black Acre.

Gantz & Commodo
Free Focus / Buckwild

A crafty white label drop here from Gantz and Commodo, who present 2 tracks of very fine contemporary dubstep. Charmingly, Free Focus / Buckwild finds each producer remixing one of the other’s tunes, so two levels of production ingenuity are present on each track. A right pair of heavy rollers. White label 12” on the Deep Medi Musik label.

Commodo, Gantz & Kahn
Volume 1

Some really heavy stuff dropping on Deep Medi Musik here, so heavy they needed two 12”s to contain it. Six tracks crafted collectively by three producers: Commodo, Gantz and Kahn. All are talented individually, and combining their powers makes for some seriously high-grade dubstep shuffle. Volume 1 is on Deep Medi Musik.

Commodo
Shift

Seeeriously mucky wobbles from Commodo. Shift is an informative piece, with vocals from JME elaborating on hostility one can draw from being out and about, no matter who you are "anyone can get it". This grimey stew consists of 100g of wongin bass, 30g of dready synths, a big handful of truth telling and a cup and a half of nang beats. Boil and serve piping hot. Out on 12" vinyl from Deep Medi Musik.
