Kolorit (Kassem Mosse & Lowtec)
Workshop XXI

This latest drop from Workshop Records (Willow, Move D) finds two old label favourites pooling their resources. Kolorit is Lowtec and Kassem Mosse, and on Workshop XXI they’ve both brought their a-game. The six tracks here are wiggly mixes of Moodymann-esque deep house, dub techno, Afrobeat and a uniquely screwball take on cosmic house.

DJ Residue
211 Circles Of Rushing Water

DJ Residue is the latest alias of the shape-shifting Gunnar Wendel (Kassem Mosse, The Siege Of Troy). 211 Circles of Rushing Water continues in the vein of recent releases on The Trilogy Tapes from Parris and Metasplice. This is erstwhile, obtuse electronica where the instruments and beats often appear near to coalescing into substantial grooves but seem reluctant to go the whole hog. Inga Copeland’s Lolina project springs to mind.

Kassem Mosse
Chilazon Gaiden

Chilazon Gaiden is the new EP from German producer Kassem Mosse, real name Gunnar Wendel. The double 12”, on Ominira, is informally split into two parts. According to Wendel, the first half is beats, then the tunes come in on the second half. Chilazon Gaiden gives you a decent amount of bang for your buck.

Dillon Wendel

This 12” is the work of Beatrice Dillon and Kassem Mosse, two producers with universally-admired skills. Pulse is a surprising and amazing move from these two, being (sort-of) beatless. That is, it is full of pulsations and feels rhythmic, but never quite kicks into an actual beat. What a wonderful long tease from these two. 12” on The Trilogy Tapes.

Kassem Mosse / Black Point
Split Vol. 2

One track each from Kassem Mosse and Black Point on this straightforwardly-presented 12” on the Out To Lunch label. Both producers are in a relaxed mood, laying out some really lovely grooves. Unhurried synth lines weave their way around languid basslines and fine-funky beats: Split Vol. 2 really does contain quality material.

Kassem Mosse

Kassem Mosse gets back down to business with a CD of fizzy and complex electronics. The man has an intuitive feel for drum machines that takes him beyond the four-to-the-floor basics and into other realms: the tracks of Disclosure are full of their own dubbed-out flavour. CD release on Honest Jon’s.

Kassem Mosse

909 grooves so razor sharp kicks, toms and hi-hats sometimes meld into pops, clicks and echoes. Deceptively simple, to the point that so few elements can provide such movement and growth. With opener Chilazon 1 breaching the 12 minute mark Kassem Mosse develops each track so subtly you don’t even realise you’ve gotten it to it before it hits 8 minutes.

Have you Seen Them?

Also known as Mix Mup and Kassem Mosse and with solo releases on Spunky Monkey and Honest Jon's they join forces through Trilogy Tapes as MM/KM. Have you Seen Them? Brings skeletal rough and ready techno-come-house tracks with percussion and burping rubber band basslines knocking over one another, and small glimpses of melody.

Kassem Mosse / Simone White
Three Versions

An intimate and spatial offering by Kassem Mosse. Using source material from American singer-songwriter Simone White, Mosse brings out subtle melancholy washes and adds in kitchen sink percussion to generate a contemplative collection of downbeat tracks. Out on 12” vinyl from Honest Jon’s.
