No Protection takes Massive Attacks’ claustrophobic paranoia and opens it up, cranks the bass and amplifies the influence of soundsystem culture, for a complete dub remix. 180 gram vinyl reissue on Universal.
A collection of riddims from the Mad Professor here. Ariwa 2018 Riddim Series finds the prof cobble together a band of Black Steel, Lloyd Parks and Horseman to turn out a set of tuff digi-dubs. The mix is nice and clean and there’s not too much delay floating about, meaning that any budding singers and deejays have plenty of room to work with should they wish to add any vocals. If you’re more of the listening type then this is still a tidy array of dubs.
Lee “Scratch” Perry and Ariwa label head Mad Professor teamed up for Black Ark ExPerryments back in 1995, alongside William The Conqueror, Rico Rodriguez, and Eddie Thornton. With this incredible line-up you don’t really expect anything but the finest dub/reggae “ExPerrymentation”.
