Consumer Electronics
Airless Space

A quick warning, despite the artwork, this is not a Guided by Voices album. Instead it's the latest from horrible (in a good way) music purveyors Consumer Electronics. After tackling the endlessly inspirational topic of Brexit on their last album, on Airless Space they have turned that attention to one D. Trump. Moving from London to San Francisco has resulted in a mellower sound than the best, but given the subject matter, one that is no less horrible.

Consumer Electronics
The Weight / Hostility Blues

I’ve probably never heard anything quite so terrifying on vinyl. Consumer Electronics has found the shortcut to my nightmares, easily surpassing my old USSR pressing of Alfred Schnittke’s third symphony. If you ever want to run a 'scared straight' anti-drug campaign on your friends, The Weight / Hostility Blues is the way to go. Expect more distorted synths than Merzbow, more crazed screams than MSI, and three to six days of insomnia.

Philip Best
Captagon

Philip Best is a power electronics nerd and member of the (cross out where necessary) exceedingly stupid/very good Whitehouse. He formed Consumer Electronics, the band where he antagonises audience members while whispering sleaze over dissonance, when he was fourteen. Ludicrous. Here's a book of things he write for the proudly turgid press imprint Amphetamine Sulphate. It is probably a dark, dreary read.

Whitehouse
Dedicated To Peter Kurten, Sadist And Mass Slayer

William Bennett (Now known for his works as Cut Hands) fronted power electronics outfit Whitehouse were the antithesis of the morality campaigner they took their name from. Cold, sadistic and punishing noise filled with distorted scraping metal and piercing electronic screeches. Originally released in 1981 Dedicated…. Was made with then member Peter McKay. Remastered and offered up on green or black vinyl. Very limited.

Consumer Electronics
Dollhouse Songs

Tech punk aggressors Consumer Electronics return with another noisey affair with the delicately titled Dollhouse Songs. Produced by the mighty Russell Haswell, this dirge of austerity angst jumps right down your earhole and stays there. Out on vinyl LP with lyric sleeve from Harbinger Sound. Limited to 1000 copies.

Consumer Electronics
Repetition Reinforcement

12” vinyl from Consumer Electronics, following up their LP Estuary English from last year. The alias of Philip Best, and featuring Sarah Froelich and Russell Haswell, Repetition Reinforcement has driving brutal beats and a close, almost claustrophobic atmosphere. Cutting right to the bone with deadpan vocals and discordant tones. On Diagonal.

Whitehouse
Total Sex

Industrial electronic pioneers, Whitehouse, originally released their second album, Total Sex, in 1980. This reissue features bonus tracks, Her Entry and Foreplay which originally appeared on a label compilation album. The tracks were recorded during the same sessions as Total Sex, so it’s only fitting that they find a home together here.

Consumer Electronics
Estuary English

Whitehouse fellow Philip Best joins forces with Sarah Froelich and Russell Haswell to make some more intimidating, totally ridiculous music under the Consumer Electronics moniker. Here the noisemaker Best spouts, spits and scowls a lot of spoken word nonsense over abrasive industrial sounds and flat-lining beats -- sounds that move at the speed strobe-lights do.
