Many Many Pings

South Yorkshire-based producer Jamie Roberts, better known as Blawan and responsible for last year’s album Wet Will Always Dry and a host of EPs and singles throughout the 2010s, returns with another collection on Ternesc. Many Many Pings is led by its title track, and contains three more originals.

Voam Club Archive Volume 1

You know where you stand with Karenn. The duo of Blawan and Pariah can always be relied on to make heart-racing techno slammers of devilish intensity no matter the time or day. On Voam Club Archive Volume 1 we get a selection of recordings from Karenn’s gigs down the years. The on-the-hoof nature of their live show means that there’s a little less finesse to these takes, but if anything this adds to the power and immediacy of Karenn’s beats.

Wet Will Always Dry

It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have a full-length from Blawan. Techno’s Prince of Darkness delivers Wet Will Always Dry, an eight-track LP, via his own TERNESC imprint. Probably the most noteworthy artistic development here is that Blawan has started singing, with his eerie vocals cropping up on ‘Stell’ and ‘Careless’. But don’t fret, he’s not abandoning his principles - many of the tracks here still sound like they have been designed to be dropped at Cthulhu’s birthday party.

Karenn (Blawan & Pariah)
Kind of Green

Producers Blawan and Pariah rejoin forces under their Karenn moniker for a new EP on the Voam imprint. After not releasing for almost 5 years they are back with vigor and a futurist glance on techno. From filthy pounders 'Rek' and 'Salz', to skippier breaks that smack of broken machines whirring into life.

By Blawan’s standards, this double EP is a laid-back affair. By Blawan’s standards, that is. So even though there’s nothing here which sounds specifically like a portal to Cthulhu’s lair is about to open up where your record player is, Nutrition still contains six cuts of pummelling techno. ‘993’ and ‘Calcium Red’ are about as close as he gets to the sound of ‘Why They Hide The Bodies…’ etc, while ‘Trampelpfad’ and ‘Mayhem’ are still pretty darn spooky. Out on his own TERNESC imprint.

Bored Young Adults
Shy Dancers On Bungalowdorf Beach

Bored Young Adults, believe it or not, is the man Blawan himself. Shy Dancers On Bungalowdorf Beach is the debut of his new moniker, which finds him going extra deep into acid techno sounds. Although it should be noted that the pace is slow, considered, and heavy. 12” release on The Trilogy Tapes.

Communicat 1022 EP

Percussive, alien techno from Blawan. On the Communicat 1022 EP Blawan’s inventive rhythms and love for industrial stomp are back, but they’re meaner and sharper. This vinyl 12” on Ternesc pushes his sound into something both more visceral and more abstract; borrowing from sounds design and drone, but never forgetting the raw drums either.

Hanging Out The Birds EP

12” vinyl on Ternesc. Blawan puts his techno hat on and turns to his hardware for his Hanging out the Birds EP released through his own imprint. Four slowly evolving percussive techno tracks with fluttering kicks and analogue fizzes and scrapes layered over bass stabs and ominous drones. Early morning set business.

Warm Tonal Touch

12” vinyl on Ternesc. Having been busy with Pariah working on their Karenn project, this is the first solo material from Blawan in three years. Warm Tonal Touch is also his first release on his own new label Ternesc. It’ an analogue modular affair with Blawan’s staple clanking industrial loops backing it up.

Long Distance Open Water Worker

Invigorating dubstep and future garage is what you get from Blawan, the coat-wearing shadow of producer Jamie Roberts. People have compared his music to a washing machine making whirring noises, but 'Long Distance Open Water Worker' is more like a dark dance workout, with low-key vocal samples, skittering beats and drab textures. Get down in the dirt.

Fram / Iddy

Blawan is a UK dubstep and techno producer named Jamie Roberts, who has been quietly and impressively releasing EPs for a good while. 'Fram / Iddy' is his 2010 single, courtesy of Hessle Audio, comprised of post-garage percussion, straight-and-narrow bass and plenty of razor-sharp synth. 'Fram / Iddy' contains two tracks that continue to showcase Blawan's significance to the UK dubstep scene.   Tracks: Fram Iddy
