Martial Canterel
Lost at Sea

Sean MacBride is also half of synthpop duo Xeno & Oaklander, but this long-running solo project has a more melancholy, introspective vibe. Rigid sequencing in the style of early Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Depeche Mode is lent a bit of Detroit drive and submerged in dense analogue synth washes. There’s an epic, cold war Europe feel (not bad for a Brooklyn lad), with MacBride’s Andy McCluskey-esque vocals portraying a lonely figure, stoic amid the winds of change.

Martial Canterel
Navigations Volume II

Martial Canterel is the vintage-style coldwave project of Sean McBride. He’s been producing shimmery moody synth music since 2002, and this second volume of his Navigations series compiles rare sounds from this first two years of the project. This is a mixture of sketches and unfinished tracks that offer both insight to the growth of the music and some very fine sounds in their own right. LP with insert on Medical Records.

Martial Canterel
Gyors, Lassú

Some retro modernity from Martial Canterel. Gyors, Lassú is a venture into the world of the analogue synthesizer. The New York native evokes the sounds of the 80's post-punk, new wave and electro-pop scenes. Imagine if Andrew Weatherall and Ian Dury scored the music to a sci-fi film in Salford - yes, I would love to hear that too. Out on vinyl LP from Dias.
