Here's a brand new standalone 12" from London based production duo Raime containing two tracks recorded after the sessions for last year's highly regarded 'Tooth' album. The duo match live playing with more electronic means of music creation incorporating the bleak atmospheres of garage, grime and dub techno. No re-press on this and no digital either so this is your only chance to get it.
Our Versions Of Their Versions is the sound of Raime taking apart and rearranging their own music from over the years into a dancehall-styled mixtape, complete with contributions from some guest vocalists. It’s such a proper mixtape, it comes presented on an actual cassette tape. Edition of 400 on Reel Torque: please note that the tape plays the same on both sides.
As Raime moved away from downtrodden drones and haunting beats towards skeletal post-punk both as Moin and under their primary name, it felt like an excavation of their influences more than anything else. As Yally, that trend continues, albeit inside the UK’s dance continuum, specifically within garage. “Burnt” is an eerie 2-step waltz precursing the advent of dubstep. “Sudo” throws skittering and pulsing mallets over snaking bass. Both tracks on the 12” vinyl take the low-end to new depths, and the flip side is blank - perfect for monitoring how level your turntable set-up is!
The second album from Raime lands with a bang: 8 tracks of precision-tooled bass-shudder and industrial wobble. Tooth feels like it has a huge amount of power kept tightly under control, the spindly guitar lines and post-dancehall dynamics acting as a straightjacket, keeping the tension high. A strong return, out on Blackest Ever Black.
