Budos Band
V

The Budos Band have long brought something different to the Daptone stable. While the label specialises in revivalist soul, this Staten Island group have come through with a series of LPs that blends the Stax aesthetic with psych-rock, funk and even a little doom metal. New album V - their fifth, if that wasn’t obvious - proves that the Budos Band sound remains in rude health.

The Budos Band
Magus Mountain / Vertigo

The Budos Band are an instrumental, nine piece band of Afro Soul explorers from Brooklyn who play a mixture of Ethiopian influenced soul with a sixties pop flavour. Like all of their records ‘Magus Mountain/Vertigo’ was recorded and released by the legendary Daptone records, steeped in the rich traditions of jazz, deep funk and soul, this record begins with the hammering of drums and wavering harmonies to prepare you for the monumental musical journey that is ‘Magus Mountain’.

The Budos Band
Maelstrom / Avalanche

Maelstrom - a powerful whirlpool - is an apt title for the latest single from The Budos Band. The listener is soaked is swirling psychedelic feedback, pummeled by bass and sent into a headspin by furious horns. On the flip side, Avalanche is a thunderous downhill roar of organ, horns, drums and fuzz guitar. Unhinged, unsafe, unbelievable!

The Budos Band
Burnt Offering

'Burnt Offering' is the newest record from that ten-piece that just wants to have fun: the Budos Band. Riffs on riffs front this record of hazy psych-rock and proud metal worship, though the band retain their jazz and Afrobeat influences and pack their tunes with all the things that make them more like Fela Kuti. A weird, wonderful hybrid of musical party makes up 'Burnt Offering'.
