Agnes Obel
Island Of Doom

Island of Doom by Agnes Obel is the first single to be taken from her fourth album, Myopia. The Berlin-based Dane isolated herself from all outside influences to write, record and produce the album all by herself. The process gave her the freedom to experiment in the studio and make the music she really wanted to make. Include instruemental version on the B-side.

Agnes Obel
Myopia

Myopia is the fourth album by the exceptional Berlin-based Danish singer / songwriter Agnes Obel. It is her first album in three years following 2016’s Citizen Of Glass. With a voice that most people would kill for, on Myopia, Obel explores themes of trust and doubt. Features the single Island Of Doom.

Late Night Tales

The latest night tale comes courtesy of haunting Danish folk-pop composer Agnes Obel. Her selections prove comparable with her own material - generally quiet, reflective and poetic. There’s Lee Hazlewood’s spoken-word narrative on ‘The Nights’, the pioneering Greek artist Lena Platonos’ spectacular examination of androgyny ‘Bloody Shadows from Afar’, a rendition of the much-loved Bulgarian women’s choir piece ‘Pilantze Pee’, Nina Simone and a great deal more.

Agnes Obel
Citizen Of Glass

Agnes Obel is quite talent: she’s got classical piano chops, a powerful voice, and a skill for folk-inflected songwriting. Of course, the important thing is that she brings it all together into a satisfying whole. Citizen Of Glass uses lots of strings and harpsichord, and occasionally performs the old Fever Ray trick of splitting and shifting Obel’s vocals so that she sounds both male and female. Out on Play It Again Sam.

Agnes Obel
Philharmonics

Agnes Obel’s ‘Philharmonics’ is a quiet classic in every sense. The Danish singer-songwriter’s 2010 debut LP unfussily went about its business in the subsequent decade, notching an impressive 450,000+ sales across Europe. It’s also a spare and lovely album full of graceful balladeering - ‘Philharmonics’ set the scene for the emergence of Aldous Harding a few years later.

Aventine

Agnes Obel  - a lady with a piano as Phil accurately surmises in his review of this her second album. This time she is joined by a small gaggle of players including Nils Frahm violinist Anne Muller and Timber Timbre's Mika Posen on a darkly bewitching set of songs that are full of beauty and gentle sonics which bring her songs to life perfectly.
