Ela Orleans
Movies For Ears

Poland-born, Glasgow-based musician Ela Orleans gets a retrospective release on Night School (Julia Holter, The Space Lady). Orleans has always used the phrase ‘movies for ears’ as something between a motto and a tagline, so when it came to naming this album there really was only ever one title in the running. The artist’s lo-fi take on everything from 60’s girl-group to Lynchian dream-pop is an idiosyncratic joy. File Movies For Ears next to Richard Youngs and fellow Night School graduate Molly Nilsson.

Ela Orleans
Circles Of Upper and Lower Hell

This is surely the most grandiose and bold statement in the musical career of the Polish born, Glasgow-based musician Ela Orleans. A varied amalgamation of all her previous work is presented as a sprawling double LP which is apparently loosely based on Dante's Inferno. Expect celestial ghostly pop songs, synthy textures and the grandest of grand visions.

Spectres (featuring Ela Orleans)

Spectres thought it wise to capitalise on the latest James Bond theme sharing (most of) a name with them, and they’ve recorded their own, unofficial theme song for Spectre. It has cinematic strings and a moody, noirish vibe: arguably better than the official choice! Pressed to 007” (geddit? wahey) golden vinyl in a limited edition. One copy per customer!

Ela Orleans
Upper Hell

Upper Hell is Ela Orleans’ much anticipated follow up to the magical Tumult in Clouds album from 2012. The noir pop wizardess teams up with uber-producer Howie B for her new music, and seductive, brilliantly evolved sounds are the inevitable result. On the man’s HB imprint on CD and vinyl, and destined to win over many more hearts with this effort.

Live at Wharf Chambers Co-operative Club, Leeds, Thursday 28.08.2014

All The Colours of The Dark + Norman Records proudly present.......... ELA ORLEANS Ela Orleans is a Polish musician now based in Glasgow, UK. She was a member of pop collagists Hassle Hound, has played with various luminaries of the New York experimental & noise scenes and is also a composer for the screen. Over the course of Orleans’ music career, her tagline and brief description for her music has always been “Movies for Ears”. In this work Orleans pushes her pastoral pop roots into more cinematic terrain, experimenting with carefully considered sound art segments, complex electronic textures and orchestral flourishes. She has a number of solo recordings, remixes and collaborative releases to her name on labels such as Parental Guidance, La Station Radar, Night People, All Saints Records, Warp, Clan Destine Records, Twisted Nerve and Staubgold. Ela Orleans utilizes various instruments, electronics and her otherworldly, softly-spun vocals to make some of the finest echo-drenched ’60s chamber pop around. Ela's ability to flip her sound into more panoramic symphonic expanses is deeply uncanny and presents the perfect counterpoint to her breezier, baroque-flavoured moments. Over the course of her career she has released some fine long-form recordings; “High Moon Low Sun” on CD, 2008, “Lost” LP in 2009 “Mars Is Heaven” LP, 2011, “NEO PI-R” LP, 2011 and the Dead Albatross Music Prize-winning “Tumult in Clouds” double LP in 2012. Also carrying her name are a split LP “Double Feature” with Dirty Beaches (a Night People and La Station Radar presentation) and contributions to a four-way split LP “The Statement” with fellow travellers Slim Twig, Dirty Beaches and U.S Girls. Ela has graced stages with these great artists in recent years: Dirty Beaches, Lee Ranaldo, Magic Markers, Julia Holter, The Space Lady, Lower Dens, The Vaselines, The Pastels, Baby Dee, Quintron, The KVB, Le Volume Courbe, Remember Remember, Jackie O Motherfucker, Tara Jane O' Neil and The Pheromoans not to mention many others. http://elaorleans.com/  http://www.deadalbatross.com/ http://pgrecs.bigcartel.com/products http://www.normanrecords.com/records/138155-ela-orleans-tumult-in FLOWER/CAMPBELL DUO Neil Campbell and Mick Flower have a notable history as two key members of legendary Leeds improvised drone collective Vibracathedral Orchestra. Neil left the group around four years ago and has since released countless recordings under the name Astral Social Club that, while under the influence of minimal techno and house, also recall the ecstatic revery of Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music". A most succinct explanation as to the cosmic rush of sound their duo guise emits is re-printed here below: "Flower’s beautiful neon guitar lines plot a course from Düsseldorf to Alpha Centauri, while Campbell’s DIY set up of drum machine, pedals and Casio keyboard conjures a punk-primitive motorik groove. The deranged mutant techno of Campbell's work as Astral Social Club soon rears its head, all rushing industrial beats, gaudy synths and brutal distorto-splatter. Flower responds with queasy phaser gloop and parabolic swoops, before locking into an unlikely, but joyous glam-rock riff on the home lap. Noisy, psychedelic splendour. Treble-heavy, chugging and occupying the brain’s most refined and oblique pleasure sensors, this is yet another essential set of prime guitar ‘n’ synth mulch." Stewart Smith @ The List. Meanwhile, Mick has not only continued on the Vibracathedral trip, but has also played extensively solo and as half of one the most intense psych/improv drenched duos around, Flower-Corsano Duo. He has also played with Jandek, Spectre Folk, MV&EE and Sunburned Hand of the Man, among others. http://www.last.fm/music/Michael+Flower http://astralsocialclub.wordpress.com/about/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibracathedral_Orchestra YGREC New band with members of Please, Beards and The Wub exploring the world of sophisticated continental pop. A preoccupation with the low end of Motown underpins their fancy contrapuntal vocal lines and spidery surf framing. They are now a four-piece and have been hand-chosen to usher in what we expect to be a magical late Summer's night. DJ BEN DEWRANCE (Room 237/Automata/Agent808@Thumpin' Thursdays) Our Ben will be wrecking the decks of steel before, between and after the acts with his inimitable taste in experimental pop, noise, beats and wild rhythms. Buy him a pint, he'll play you a tune. GIG WILL FINISH IN TIME FOR LAST TRAINS TO ALL OTHER MAJOR SATELLITE TOWNS & CITIES!
