Helpless Spectator

Matt Hill, who records under the name Umberto in tribute to film director Umberto Lenzi, earns his corn as film score composer. He also makes stand-alone music too. Helpless Spectator is his latest album and his debut recording for legendary Chicago label, Thrill Jockey. It is music of many textures, but mainly is reminiscent of those synth-heavy sci-fi and horror soundtracks from the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Antoni Maiovvi & Umberto
Law Unit

‘Law Unit’ is the latest release on Death Waltz Originals by retro futurists Umberto (Prophecy Of The Black Widow, Night Has A Thousand Screams) and Antoni Maiovvi (Yellow, Delta City). The resulting ten tracks explore the possibilities of early experimental, industrial music through disharmonious, reflective synths, determined apocalyptic percussion and the occasional suggestion of electric guitar.

Matt Hill, aka Umberto, is a man deeply in love with the giallo sound, his every musical move ready to soundtrack some 80’s slasher horror flick (he did produce a live score for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so he knows what he is doing). Alienation is his latest, which also includes some slightly different styles and some poetry-inspired vocals. Out on Not Not Fun.
