While Dean Blunt has been more than prolific since the split of Hype Williams in 2012, Inga Copeland has taken things a little slower. The Smoke is her second LP as Lolina, and it finds Copeland at both her most playful and her most obtuse. She amps up the lackadaisical, detached elements of her sound so that they hover on the edge of musicality, but there is something about the way Copeland constructs her music that makes it uniquely gripping.
Dean Blunt & Joanne Robertson
Originally only released on social media this is the first time on vinyl for this 2014 collaboration between Dean Blunt (Hype Williams, Babyfather etc) and visual/folk artist Joanne Robertson. Robertson is a frequent Blunt collaborator featuring memorably on his The Redeemer LP. Vinyl only. No download.
Lolina (Inga Copeland)
Self-released 10” from the former Hype Williams member under her Lolina moniker, last heard on wax on the baffling Live in Paris. Previously barely available as an edition-of-30 Australian tour CDR, it includes two vocal tracks and an instrumental, all sparse, dry, and brutally concise. Simultaneously delivers razor-sharp directness and inscrutability.

Relentless prankster Dean Blunt reappears with an album he allegedly recorded in a Moscow hotel room. The ten tracker has been released without much fanfare but expect it to sell out in an instant. These pieces are said to be more in tune with earlier works such as The Redeemer with downbeat, fractures songs topped off by Blunts unmistakeable mumble.
Limited pressing, self-released 3 track CD. Inga Copeland hits again under a different moniker, and away from Hype Williams her experimentation has been boundless. Under the Lolina name she pushes the R’n’B grooves and discordant piano riffs even further than Copeland. Relaxin’ is perhaps an inaccurate title for these, frankly disconcerting pop songs.
2 brand new Dean Blunt tunes right here, back to back on a limited 180g 12" vinyl on World Music. Or should we call him, Dean So Many Blunts He Presses 420 Copies Of His New Record. It's his first new solo material proper since Black Metal, and just listen to that A side track - it's Blunt at his most peaceful, with cyclic vocal samples intertwining with breezy guitar and warm chords.
After several years off pursuing their own projects, Dean Blunt and Inga Copeland are back with a new album as Hype Williams. Except they aren't, as the press release reckons neither of them are involved. Or are they? The woozy, disjointed music they previously concocted has spawned lots of imitators but now we get the real thing. Or do we?
Under the moniker of Lolina, former Hype Williams provocateur Inga Copeland played a show Live In Paris, which she is now self-releasing. The set was a typically odd one, with Monopoly-related spoken vocals and abstract electronics in edition to Inga’s cutting-edge electronic song forms. CD or LP, released by the artist.
