Cybotron was of course the outfit who appeared right at the very beginning of the Detroit techno explosion. They featured Juan Atkins who would go on to be a major player in the movement going forward. Here they produce a fascinating form of cosmic funk which drew comparisons with Kraftwerk and George Clinton and were eventually sampled on Missy Elliott's Lose Control which is just one reason of many why the album is considered such a classic.

Cybotron
Clear

Cybotron's 'Clear' is an old techno nugget from the 80s with scope that goes way wider: Juan Atkins (the Detroit techno pioneer himself), Richard Davis and John Housley, the trio that comprised Cybotron, were influenced by everything from electronic experiments to the catchiest krautrock (clue: that means Kraftwerk), and ended up making an indelible funk tune in "Clear". It's now being repressed by Decision, along with a remix from Jose Animal. On the flip, there's b-side "Techno City", a secondary Cybotron tune with a more sustained ambient styling. There's an instrumental, too.
