Charles Hayward Versus Harmergeddon
Charles Hayward Versus Harmergeddon

Charles Hayward was the drummer in legendary bands This Heat and Camberwell now. Harmergeddon are an audio visual duo from London. Charles Hayward Versus Harmergeddon sees the two acts collaborating in a work that sees meandering electronics and blissful soundscapes underpinned by Hayward’s propulsive drumming.

Charles Hayward
Crossfade Estate

Charles Hayward (This Heat, Camberwell Now) was asked to test the limits of a new recording suite at The Albany in Deptford. Hayward duly obliged recording his previously unreleased 2005 album Crossfade Estate very quickly. He then spent a year and a half, mixing, cutting and pasting. The players along with Hayward are Ashleigh Marsh, Nick Doyne-Ditmas, Sean O'Hagan, Rob Mills, Orphy Robinson, Chris Cornetto, Sharon Gal and Simon King.

Gigi Masin & Charles Hayward
Les Nouvelles Musiques De Chambre Volume 2

Though best known for his work in This Heat and Camberwell Now, erstwhile sound explorer Charles Hayward has done plenty else in his time. For example, this 1989 split LP with Gigi Masin. The two musicians were tasked with devising music inspired by their local rivers, which led Masin into beautiful looping melodic ambience and Hayward into a sinister side-long drift piece. First time on vinyl for this rare release, out on Modern Classics.

Keiji Haino & Charles Hayward
A Loss Permitted To Open Its Eyes For But Three Hours And There Glimpsed, Finally In Focus A Mystery That Begs...

Now THIS looks interesting. Experimental pioneer Keiji Haino (a collaborator with Faust, Boris, and Stephen O'Malley, among other things) and Charles Hayward (founding member of legendary experimental outfit This Heat) came together in 2016 to play an improvisational set at the Copeland Gallery in London. Thankfully, it was recorded and now Thirty Three Thirty Three are putting that recording out - wonderful news for fans of all things a bit weird.
