Camberwell Now
The EP Collection

Ocean-inspired weirdery from London's Charles Hayward (The Heat) and an ensemble of friends, including a former BBC sound engineer and a ukulele player. Compiled from a selection of EPs originally released in the late 1980s, this vinyl is just one of The Heat / Camberwell Now's quirky recordings to enjoy a reissue on Modern Classics this year.

Charles Hayward and Thurston Moore
Improvisations

Thurston Moore’s relocation to Dalston a few years ago has put him into the same musical orbits as players like Charles Hayward, the legendary driving force behind This Heat and Camberwell Now. Improvisations is a set of just that, with our two heroes tearing it up on guitar and drums. Vinyl release on Care In The Community.

Camberwell Now
The Ghost Trade

The Camberwell Now were a noise/art group formed by drummer and vocalist Charles Hayward after the disbanding of This Heat, featuring This Heat’s sound technician Stephen Rickard who created analogue sampling boards for field samples and tape manipulation way before the sampler was brought in. First vinyl reissue since 1986 and features a bonus unreleased track.

Gigi Masin & Charles Hayward
Les Nouvelles Musiques De Chambre Volume 2

Though best known for his work in This Heat and Camberwell Now, erstwhile sound explorer Charles Hayward has done plenty else in his time. For example, this 1989 split LP with Gigi Masin. The two musicians were tasked with devising music inspired by their local rivers, which led Masin into beautiful looping melodic ambience and Hayward into a sinister side-long drift piece. First time on vinyl for this rare release, out on Modern Classics.

Charles Hayward
presents Anonymous Bash
