Ras G & The Afrikan Space Program
Stargate Music

Leaving Records (Matthewdavid, devonwho) provide a home for the latest LP by LA beat-smith Ras G. The Arrival is another sci-fi melting pot from the former Brainfeeder man. Plenty of cosmic and spiritual jazz influences rub shoulders with leftfield hip-hop takes and some Midwest house sounds. Will appeal to those who enjoyed the two Shabazz Palaces records that dropped in 2017. Out on 4/20.

Ras G
Raw Fruit Vol. 3-4

Ras G considers the material on the Raw Fruit series of beat-tapes as primarily “freestyle beats I make to smoke weed to”. Good to have a clearly defined function. However, these tracks aren’t just doped out: Ras’ interests in afrofuturism and free jazz (he is a contemporary of Flying Lotus after all) are also audibly apparent. Double LP on Leaving Records.

The Gospel Of The God Spell

Initially released late 2016 on cassette only, Street Corner Music have revisited this beats tape by Los Angeles producer Ras G to bring it out on vinyl for the first time. Made up of quick beats that he put together from sampling the gospel section in the record store where he works it’s a crate-digger’s vinyl straight to MPC dream.

The El-Aylien Tapes Vol. 1 & 2

Deep and heavy beat tracks from premium producer Ras G. Operating from the heart of the LA scene, G pulls many of his samples from the regions of free jazz, lending his tracks a strongly afrofuturistic vibe. The El-Aylien Tapes Vol. 1 & 2 is a strong set of groovy collages, released by Leaving Records.

Back On the Planet

Good to have you Back On The Planet, Mr. G. For his first Brainfeeder LP in a couple of years we find old Ras in an Ancient Space Program way, which means that you should strap yourselves in before listening to this one. In the noble tradition of Sun Ra, Pharaoh Sanders et al, Ras G travels deep into the astral plane here, swinging from spiritual groove tracks (‘All Is Well…’) to the most fervid of noisescapes (‘Back On The Planet’).
