Bong
Thought and Existence

Bong are back baby, presenting two side-long slabs of deep space power. In the three years since they last graced our stereos, Bong have augmented their strategy of crushing riffs and momentous drum rhythms with extra lashings vibes cosmic energy. The second track, for instance, with its superbly portentous Borges-quoting title, is remarkably ‘up’ for Bong. Thought And Existence is out on Ritual Productions.

Bong
Live At Roadburn 2010, 2012, 2014

Roadburn is Tilburg's premier festival of metal and the noise that exists adjacent to it. I'm pretty sure we had one of these live records from them when Gnod were doing their drone ritual business over there, and now we get one from Bong, the band so stoked on being stoned that their drummer puts his head down on his kit when they're doing the more Sunn O))) inspired bits. As slow and steady as you could possibly have a doom metal band, they're arguably at their best when playing out, so I'd say this is a good compromise for anyone who can't be bothered to leave their house.

David Terry
Sorrow

Opal Tapes (Gosheven, Perfume Advert) bring forth a new tape of arcane drones from David Terry. The Bong/Trollman Av Ildtoppberg member has created three lengthy pieces here, each one full of dark portent. Utilising organs, throat singing, accordion and incantatory drumming, Sorrow is a chilling release that makes Sunn O))) look like Lady Gaga.

Bong
We Are, We Were And We Will Have Been

‘We Are, We Were And We Will Have Been’ continues irregular tonal experimentalist Bong’s disturbingly solemn delivery of prolonged, mesmerising drone. The record comprises of two twenty minute journeys into the sonic wasteland that is Bong’s melting glacial world as the listener is swept away through the power of residual distortion and ethereal synths.

Blown Out
Superior Venus

Heavyweight psychedelia from Newcastle’s finest, featuring members of BONG, Drunk In Hell, Khunnt and Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (I told you they were heavyweight). Blown Out’s album Superior Venus is a two-track punch of dense riffage and space power released in an limited edition of 500 LPs by Riot Season.

Dodge Meteor
Dodge Meteor

Dodge Meteor are a two-piece heavy psych outfit with members in Newcastle and Italy. Presumably that means that when they do manage to get together in the same room, they waste no time in getting deep and blasted: this recorded debut is dripping with riff power and thundering drums. Released in a limited edition of 50 purple cassettes by Swap Meat.

Blown Out
Sun Rot

Blown Out emanate from Newcastle, where they drop deep deep out in order to access the cosmic planes needed to blast psych music as morass-thick as this. Sun Rot locks into stoned-head-nod grooves and stays well put, letting the riff-churn do its thing. Cassette release limited to 50 copies, on Swap Meat.

Bong
Beyond Ancient Space

Slow stoners who fall asleep more than they play music, Bong are known for their riff-oriented doom, which knocks on the grinning evil of Electric Wizard, Queen Elephantine and the rest of the genre's suspenseful slayers. Beyond Ancient Space continues to show off their affection for playing and recording in a mostly live fashion.
